Comments about 4-in-1 Lullaby LX Play Yard - Adventure:
We purchased this playard in late August 2012 and our baby was born on November 3, 2012. I started using this in my office after I returned from maternity leave in early January 2013. It took me, my husband, and a colleague with two kids and who has a playard quite some time to put everything together for the first time because the instructions were so fuzzy and the pictures were more confusing than helpful. Anyway, my baby used to come to my (very family-friendly) office every day and stayed there for 2-3 hours, so the playard just stayed up once we set it up.
In early April 2013, we went out of town and brought the playard with us to use as a portable crib. It took me a really long time to pack up the playard. No matter how hard I squeezed, I could not unlock all four rails. I tried different angles, and started with different rails first, but it was extremely difficult to release the locks. After a really good workout, I was finally able to pack up the playard. And man, that thing was heavy to move around! While it was fairly easy to set it up once we got to the hotel, packing it up was once again quite challenging, but it was more manageable because my husband was there to help me.
It was relatively easier to assemble the playard again once I brought it back to my office after the trip since I already knew how to do it. In any case, it stayed up again once I set it up. Fast forward a few months later. My baby no longer comes to my office on a regular basis but I still kept the playard up for a while because it was such a pain to pack it up. I hurt my wrists and work up a sweat every time I pack up the playard. Those darn rails are just so difficult to unlock! I told myself that as long as the playard works for my baby once assembled, I would just deal with the difficulty of packing it up.
I had recently removed the infant bassinet because my baby is now 8+ months old and almost 17 lbs. I tried to keep her in the bassinet as long as possible because I was not sure how she would like the playard. Well, she cried the first time I put her in it. She stopped when I picked her up and cried again as soon as I tried to put her down again. The second time she started to cry a little but I managed to get her to stop crying and start playing with her toys. She got very frustrated very quickly though. She started pushing and kicking at the mesh sides. I am guessing that the playard is too small for her. She has no problems sitting up, moving around, and playing by herself at home in her larger playpen. The third time, she cried again and pretty much refused to stay in the playard. I ended up putting the mattress on the floor and she was perfectly fine just playing on the mattress.
Finally, I decided to give the playard one last try with my baby and guess what? One of the top rails just would not lock. I folded it back and tried assembling the playard again several times, but the same top rail just would not lock (as opposed to random different rails that would not unlock like before). And as soon as I decided I was going to give up and just put it away, guess what? The opposite top rail would not unlock!!! I was frustrated beyond belief and contemplated just dragging the whole thing to the dumpster and throwing it in the dumpster… Fortunately, after taking a very long break and icing my sore wrists, I was able to unlock that top rail and put the playard away.
I have contacted customer service and am now awaiting a response. In any case, I think my baby is done with the playard. Had I known better back then, I would most definitely have gone with a different option.
Comments about 4-in-1 Lullaby LX Playard - Hazelwood:
Chicco Playyard LX is very disappointing if you plan to use it for travel or intermittent use. The biggest problem is that it is very difficult to collapse. There are cheaper playyards that are better designed. It is too difficult to get the floor of the playyard high enough to collapse the sides.
