Comments about Grand Piano:
We first purchased our little one a Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learn & Move Music Station Keyboard when she was just a tiny baby. She LOVED it and making and dancing to music has become on of her favorite pass times. Now that she is almost 2 years old (she is 22 months) she was playing with the little plastic keyboard less and less, so we wanted an upgrade that would last her a few years and that was more true to playing a real piano.
When we saw the Grand Piano by Melissa and Doug we were pretty sure we had found the right one for our daughter. It looks quite similar to other pianos in this price range, but the Melissa and Doug name is familiar to us and one we put our trust in for reliable and sturdy products. Plus the fact that the bench seat looked much safer and harder to tip off of was a big factor for us.
The product arrived as described and I was able to put it together myself without any difficulty. My daughter was interested as soon as she figured out what it was and couldn't wait for me to finish. As soon as I put the legs on the piano she started playing with it. As soon as I put the bench seat together she sat right down and gave me a little concert.
I love the fact that the there is a letter/note chart right above the keys, and since my daughter is learning her letters she started pointing right away saying "C" and "A" so this piano translates great to the real thing. The top of the piano does partially open and locks in place so you have to push in on the metal piece that holds it open while you close it. This is a great safety feature so you don't have to worry about your little one closing their fingers.
My only complaint is the 2 pieces that hold the music book slide into place, but don't stay very well. The front smaller piece falls out every time my daughter puts her book on the stand, but the back part stays put pretty well unless she pulls it out. I'm sure we can fix this with a bit of wood glue, but I wish it had come with a way to clock the two pieces in place. I'm guessing they made them removable so it could be flat on top for packing. Otherwise we love our new addition to our daughter's musical instruments. Our daughter really enjoys it as she's always sneaking off to the other room and just as I wonder where she is I hear the piano music! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a musical child.
