LeapFrog® Tag™ Reading System (16mb)
The amazing touch reading system for beginning readers.
Perfectly sized for little hands, the Tag™ Reader is a touch-and-talk reading device that brings stories to life like never before and offers insights into what your child is learning. As children touch the Tag Reader to the pages of specially printed storybooks, a small camera in the tip “reads” the pages, enabling children to hear words and stories read aloud. Characters, pictures and learning activities spring to life with every touch, immersing children in the thrill of reading.
Designed for children four to eight, the Tag Reading System works with a broad library of more than 20 books and games. Children can explore classic books such as Olivia and The Little Engine That Could, or join popular characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Ariel the Little Mermaid in new reading adventures. Leveled learning activities in every book adjust automatically to your child’s pace, helping build confidence and a love of reading that lasts a lifetime.
Amazingly easy to use, the Tag™ Reader holds audio for up to five books at a time. Simply connect the Tag™ Reader to your computer with the included USB cable, download the audio for your Tag books and drag-and-drop up to five of your children’s favorite stories onto your Tag Reader.
While online, you can also see your children’s progress in recent books, get detailed updates on the skills they are exploring and share in their accomplishments by creating a free LeapFrog® Learning Path at leapfrog.com. The Tag™ Reading System is one of three new LeapFrog Connected learning systems that connect to the LeapFrog Learning Path, empowering you to get regular insights into your child’s learning.

Comments about LeapFrog Tag Reading System:
The best part is that it's got lots of books to choose from. The TAG line is well established, so you don't have to worry about buying something and not having new books available later.
The only down side is that I had to create a for the TAG device. Not much of a downside for me.
Comments about Tag Reading System (16mb):
We received this as a gift for our 3-year-old and have loved it from the start. It is such a clever toy. He can operate the pen by himself, which is fantastic at this age of growing independence, and he loves to "read" the stories, have the stories play by themselves, see what sounds the different pictures and symbols make, and play games. We only have two books for it now, but there are so many options that he's not bored with them yet. He is also learning to play the games and answer questions about the story, which is such great educational practice. As he learns to read, the read-by-word option will also be increasingly helpful. He is already playing with it, and I think it will actually help him read sooner because he'll be able to do it at his pace without fear of "failure".
As parents, we love the long battery life (it turns itself off after 5 minutes of non-use!) and the fact that we can send our son to "read" by himself when we're really busy or after bedtime stories with us. We just took it on a two week trip, and it was so easy to pack and carry because the pen is small and the books are very light and flat (obviously) yet they provided SO many hours of entertainment. (Secretly, we also love playing with the pen to find the hidden little sounds and messages on the tiniest details of the pictures - it is so intricate and clever!).
We haven't tried plugging it in and downloading the software that lets you track your child's progress, but that is a great feature I look forward to using.
The age range on this toy is 4-8, but our 3 year old loves it and I think other books will provide room to grow. Highly recommend it.
