Cybex Aton 2 Infant Car Seat - Violet Spring
The all new Cybex Aton 2 integrates popular safety technology from Europe -- now available in the U.S. Building on the success of the Aton, Aton 2 incorporates the Load Leg and Linear Side-Impact Protection (LSP). The Load Leg deploys from under the Base of the Aton 2 and extends to the floor of the vehicle. After installing the Aton 2 Base with its patented Belt Tensioning Plate, insuring a secure installation with either LATCH or vehicle belts, simply extend the Load Leg to the floor of the vehicle for unsurpassed safety. The Load Leg provides additional coupling between the Aton 2 and the vehicle, to pick up and distribute the crash forces more quickly and effectively in a crash. Additionally, the Load Leg tremendously reduces forward rotation of the infant seat on impact keeping your baby in the prescribed more upright position, which reduces stretching on the spine caused if the seat pitches too far forward. The energy absorbing shell, fully lined with EPS foam, provides enhanced side impact protection. The addition of the Linear Side Impact Protection (LSP) transfers the initial impact to the shell more quickly, allowing the shell to absorb and transfer the energy away from your baby, improving safety in a side impact collision by up to 40%. The Aton 2 is suitable for babies from 4 to 35 pounds, and up to 30" tall. With the removable Infant Insert and removable Infant Inlay, the Aton 2 offers optimal height adjustment for a perfect fit as well as superior comfort and support for newborns. The UV 50+ integrated sun canopy provides sleek and stylish sun protection. The European Installation method without the Base is perfect for vacation travel and frequent taxi cab use, while providing superior safety in this mode.

Comments about Aton 2 Infant Car Seat (2013) - Violet Spring:
My daughter turned a year old this past week and still fits in this seat just fine. Even so, we're starting to transition her to a rear-facing convertible, and so I think of my "Aton days" as coming to a close (at least for this kid -- we'll be using this seat for a younger brother or sister if one is in the future!).
Things I love:
LSP. I love this feature. The crash test videos are compelling and it just makes sense overall. I love that it makes a big difference in safety, but doesn't add any bulk to the seat.
Load leg. This is an awesome feature. A little tricky to get installed correctly in some cars, but if you take your seat to a technician at a car seat check event, they should be able to help you troubleshoot any compatibility issues you might have with your vehicle. Makes a big difference as far as preventing over-roation and rebound.
Easy install. I have never gotten a car seat install so tight with so little effort. I always get rock-solid installs when I install car seats, but this one requires the least effort to do so. It's really incredible.
Great Looks. I get tons of comments on this car seat. People love it.
Most importantly, it FITS. We originally bought an Aton seat because it was the only one that fit comfortably in our vehicle. We upgraded to the Aton 2 when we replaced our seat following a crash. Both seats fit comfortably in the back seat on the passenger side with the front seat all the way back in our small car. This was a huge plus for us and made it so much more comfortable. The release being on the base and the fact that the handle can be up make a big difference, too, because you can have less space between the car seat and the front seat.
Things I don't love:
The little ball recline level indicator. It gets caught up with static and doesn't give accurate readings.
Harness adjuster. It can be kind of difficult to get tight in comparison to other infant seats.
Strap covers. These pushed my daughter's chest clip down too far. At first I thought it must be okay, since they came with the seat, but then I found out how unsafe it is to have the chest clip in the wrong position and that strap covers can be problematic for this reason. Even now, as a 1-year old, they are too big and push the chest clip into an unsafe position. I can't figure out what size of kid they're intended for, but they seem better suited to a toddler than a baby.
Regal Lager customer service. They have been no help when I've called to ask questions. Very friendly, but no help. Also, when I ordered a replacement part, the guy on the phone said it was no problem to ship it to me, but then it didn't ship. Then I called again and the person on the phone this time said that they'd never gotten my request. I put in the request again and got confirmation that it had been received. Weeks went by with no shipment. Then I talked to the guy on the phone again and he thought maybe they hadn't received my order because he had no record of it and sounded skeptical until I pulled up my emails with them that said they had confirmed it, and then said, "Yeah, I can put in that order for you." (As if he was doing me a big favor when they were the ones who lost my order!) And then he told me to look for a confirmation email within the hour, but I never received one. A couple days later, I was gearing up for another frustrating phone call with them to tell them that I was told to expect a confirmation email that never arrived, and all of a sudden the replacement part arrived on my doorstep. So, I avoid dealing with them like the plague. I really wish Cybex just had a US branch, rather than having to deal with Regal Lager. Ugh.
Comments about Aton 2 Infant Car Seat (2013) - Violet Spring:
This is a great car seat for us. Our almost 3 month old child was having problems breathing in her Britax car seat when we attached it to her Bob stroller. I didn't trust using the car seat in the car when I couldn't monitor her as closely. Diapers.com did a fantastic job getting us the Aton 2 car seat so we could get her to her doctor's appointment. Our pediatrician sent us to the local hospital for a 90 minute car seat challenge in the Aton 2. We passed with flying colors and the individual conducting the test said that he really liked how the Aton 2 seat fit our daughter. We do too! We have the Aton 2 installed in our 2011 Town & Country minivan in the 2nd row captain seats and it fits great. Love the bar that goes to the floor. We feel it adds extra safety. We would buy this again.
