Best Baby Carriers for Dad

While Zach Galifianakis wearing a baby made for some funny moments in The Hangover, we're not joking when we say that many men love using baby carriers. Dads appreciate the convenience and ease of wear as much as moms do. Plus, it allows for bonding time with baby. And for moms who had a C-section or difficult birth, doctors may advise them to take it easy—and not carry heavy things—during recovery. So baby carriers give dad a chance to do the heavy lifting on outings. Here are some considerations to keep in mind when looking for a baby carrier for dad.

Sizing: Most carriers on the market are labeled one size, with adjustable straps that help people of different sizes and heights wear the carrier safely and comfortably. So whether dad is 6'7" or 5'7", the carrier will fit him just fine. Look for a carrier that offers good support—thickly padded shoulder straps, and even weight distribution—and is easily adjustable. Those with lots of straps and buckles, or complicated multi-piece wraps, probably won't be a dad favorite.

Design: While some guys don't mind wearing a flowery wrap, many prefer a unisex, solid color. There's a reason that the Ergobaby and BabyBjorn are tried-and-true favorites for moms and dads alike. Not only do they come in classic colors and looks, but they're designed with both wearer and baby in mind.

Invest in Two: If dad is going to be using the baby carrier frequently, it’s a good idea to buy one for mom and one for dad. That way, you don’t have to worry about re-adjusting the straps every time you switch between wearers. It's not only a matter of convenience, but you will never have to worry about losing that ideal strap setting you worked so hard to find.

  1. Mom Tip: Regardless who is using the carrier the most, one very important feature is the ability to get the carrier on and off without any help. Your partner may be otherwise occupied, so being able to get the baby in the carrier and remove them when you're home—without an extra set of hands—is an overlooked but crucial consideration. That's one reason why Ktbaker and her husband were fans of the BabyBjorn We Air.

After extensive research (and I seriously mean it when I say extensive) I finally decided on this carrier, and I'm very happy with my decision! This carrier is excellent and excellent quality. We purchased this to use for our 6-week-old daughter. We also have a two-year-old, so I was in great need of having both hands, and arms, free to wrangle him. This carrier is extremely user-friendly, easy to get on and off, and everything adjusts very smoothly, even while you have it on with baby in it. My favorite part is definitely the fact that the front completely comes undone allowing you to take out a sleeping baby with extreme ease! No tugging on a stuck baby or getting one leg stuck in there. With a carrier we had in the past, my son would get stuck every time we tried to get him out. My husband would have to hold the bottom of the carrier while I pulled my son out. This carrier definitely doesn't have that problem. Everything about this carrier is functional! I really like the way it's designed to go on as well. It's so simple, you don't have to worry about trying to buckle anything behind your back. My husband also really loves this carrier. He absolutely did not think it would be worth spending that much money, but once he used it, he told me he was wrong and that it was definitely money well spent! I am 5'6" and 165 lbs and I have no problems with getting this carrier adjusted; it fits beautifully. And my husband is 5'10" and 185 lbs and he says the same about how it fits.
