I got this book for my (now five year old) first born (boy). We read this when he was 1&1/2 -4. He wasn't a fan of Thomas but LOVED the book. The TV show scared him. My youngest (now 2) absolutely loves Thomas and we have started reading this book to him now and loves it!! My oldest son knows it and is starting to read so he likes to read it to him. Great book. Just know that you'll have to read it over and over.
