The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book by Eric Carle
One sunny Sunday, the caterpillar was hatched out of a tiny egg. He was very hungry. On Monday, he ate through one apple; on Tuesday, he ate through three plums--and still he was hungry. Strikingly bold, colorful pictures and a simple text in large, clear type tell the story of a hungry little caterpillar's progress through an amazing variety and quantity of foods. Full at last, he made a cocoon around himself and went to sleep, to wake up a few weeks later wonderfully transformed into a butterfly!

Brilliantly innovative designer and artist Eric Carle has dramatized the story of one of Nature's most common yet loveliest marvels, the metamorphosis of the butterfly, in a picture book to delight as well as instruct the very youngest reader or listener. Cleverly die-cut pages show what the caterpillar ate on successive days, graphically introducing sets of up to 10 objects and also the names of the days of the week in rotation, as well as telling the central story of the transformation of the caterpillar. The final, double-page picture of the butterfly is a joyous explosion of color, a vibrant affirmation of the wonder and beauty of Nature.

Comments about The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle:

I bought this to be the first book for my 4 month old based on glowing reviews. And it was all that and more. A story that is interesting to kids and parents, very original illustration and a good way to teach about numbers. It doesn't mention here but pages actually had holes where worm had eaten. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the size of board book is a bit small. Its better for older children.

Comments about The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle:

This book is a wonderful book which integrates counting, item recognition, problem solving, and beginning science. Kids love the colorful illustrations and laugh about the numerous foods that the hungry caterpillar eats. This is a great book to introduce to toddlers (there is a boardbook version), or a great book for beginning readers.

This was my hubbies favorite and he begged me to get it for my 2yr. old. OMG! After the first read it was "AGAIN! AGAIN!" She then reads it to herself, then to me and now takes it everywhere. Love it!
