Originally, my husband and I chose this particular play mat because of the price tag (it was 1/3 the price of some of the other brands and much larger).
We like the thickness and firmness of the foam - it is hard enough that our daughter can really gain from tummy time on it but it is much softer than the laminate floors so she doesn't hurt herself when she tumbles. There's a texture to it that allows our daughter to get a grip with her fingers and toes, allowing her more leverage to move.
There aren't any extra connectors or anything - every piece fits into another like a puzzle. We haven't had any issue with pieces popping up, but that may be because we have laminate floors. The mat is easy to sweep or wipe clean (a diaper wipe works well). I have noticed from time to time that it seems to be damp (we live in a humid area) but I also wonder if it is a bit of an illusion in temperature or texture.
We have placed our daughter's jumper onto the mat so that her feet will have some cushion when she jumps and it has been wonderful. So far, it has not left any indentations in the foam. When we had her swing on the mat, though, it DID leave indentations, but they were gone a few days after moving the swing.
The ONLY thing that bothers me about this mat (and it may seem a bit trivial) is that I am a bit of a perfectionist and the letters/numbers do not properly alternate between green and brown. If I wanted to arrange the mat to be wider, then I would have to put two brown or green tiles right next to each other and the pattern would become unsightly. (i.e. the letter "f" and the letter "g" are BOTH green letters surrounded by brown squares.) I am disappointed in that, but otherwise it is a great product and I would not hesitate to purchase another one!

We love this mat. We created a play area for our 5 month old twins. They are now 7 months and are on the move, so this mat provides great cushioning when they fall. The only downside is they discovered they can pull the edges, numbers and letters up and love to chew on them. We used duct tape to hold everything in place on the reverse side, and so far they have not been able to pull up the pieces.

As other reviewers wrote, this mat isn't as thick as can be, but I use it on a carpeted floor, so we have no trouble with the cushion. My 2-year-old daughter loves it defining her play area, and it starts conversations about letters and numbers. Haven't needed to wash it yet, so I don't know how that will go, but it smells just fine and looks terrific. My complaint is silly: you can't get a complete rectangle from all 26 alphabet letters unless you do two rows of 13. Numbers to the rescue!

My 6 month old loves this play mat. He's rolling everywhere and starting to crawl and this is the perfect cushion for him to practice on.

The mat is easy to clean and the best part is that it doesn't have that toxic plastic smell.

My 6 month old loves this play mat. It's nice and soft so when when he rolls and bumps his head there is a cushion and it's soft under his knees now that he's crawling...much better than the rough carpet.

It's really easy to clean up. The best part was it doesn't have that toxic plastic smell like some toys.

We couldn't be happier with our purchase!
