I've had this gate for a few months and I've really been happy with my purchase. We have one for upstairs and downstairs. I didn't want a gate that stuck out and screamed "we have children here". It looks nice with our neutral colored home as well as keeps our child and dogs in the areas we want them in. I also was concerned about having a gate that would withstand the impact of a great dane hitting it and this one does the job.

We thought that this was going to be a great gate to use at the top of our stairs, but it turned out to be more difficult to use & actually created more of a hazard for those trying to get through it to go down the stairs. First of all, it did look nice & I liked the extra tall height, and it was made pretty sturdily. That being said, with the frame on both sides of the gate being stationary, the swinging gate in the middle was not wide enough for even an average person to get through comfortably, let alone if you were larger than average, or say, carrying one of those large infant car seats with an infant in it. Also, the bar that went across the bottom of the threshold that you had to step over to go through it was actually a tripping hazard!
We ended up uninstalling this gate after a couple of days of frustration & near accidents & decided on the Safety 1st Perfect Fit gate which has worked great & is much easier to operate & get through. The only downside is I did like the fact that the Summer Infant gate was supposed to swing shut on it's own, but sometimes we had to push it to make sure it clicked. The Safety 1st gates drawback is that we have to make sure that we manually shut the gate & push down the locking system each and every time we go through it. But now that we have gotten used to it, everyone is using it just fine, including our 5-yr old.
