Red spectrum of colors and black&white contrast work great for newborn - help them learn how to focus, and since these are colors they are able to see, it is very stimulating. Just hold it close to babys face, move it left and right or rattle and observe how it grasps their attention. They seem to be very amazed by it.

this is a pretty simple toy but my baby loves it. It's easy for her to pick up and she loves the spinning end. Great toy for the diaper bag because it's small and gets her attention when we are out pretty easily.
