We bought this lock (after a different brand broke) from a big box retailer. We had three problems with it and it didn't even last a week:
1) The lock works best if you have a totally flat toilet seat cover. Ours has a slight curve which prevented the main piece from sitting flush against the cover.
2) Because it swings back automatically, it would get caught under the tank when the cover was put back down. Hard to explain, but again, this has to do with our particular toilet design.
3) Our 16 mo old pretty much figured how to jiggle it around hard enough that it came off.

I'm now on Diapers shopping for our 3rd lock but felt compelled to write a review about this one.

Seems to keep out the toddler but maybe the legitimate user as well.

Why can't I lock this open as well as closed? At least with our toilet design, you have to hold the toilet lid open while going or it will snap shut on you.

This may seem like a small difficulty, but it means I have to remember to be all ready to go before I disengage it... Maybe others are more skilled than I am at unbuttoning a pair of trousers with one hand?

This works great! My little one is 16 months, and there is NO WAY he could open the toilet lid when this thing is on. My husband installed it, and it seemed pretty easy. If you have a curious toddler, get it!

Prior to this, I had the other toilet lock (from "Mommy's Helper") but it didn't feel nearly as tight or effective as this one. Plus, when installed, it is in the way -and part of it sits inside bowl, which is not very hygienic. My husband broke it in frustration... haha!

This product was very easy to install. I purchased two safety Toliet locks for the bathrooms in our house. When I installed the first lock, I got the hook (for lack of a better word - long part) a liitle to close to the latch so it won't automatically lock back without a little force, but it totally still works. When I install the 2nd one I knew to make sure to leave just enough space for the hook to slide in the latch. It works perfect. When I close the Toliet lid it automatically locks. Great product but they should include this installation tip in thier instructions.

I have tried three other toilet locks - this is the first that was not a clamp style. The clamps would pop off, were difficult to install, and my husband never clamped the toilet back when he needed to. With this toilet lock, you never have to touch the bowl and it locks when you close the toilet lid. It does not get any simpler than that! Some people mentioned that it did not stick. I did not have this issue but the back of my toilet is flat and the top of the toilet seat is hard (not soft or cushion-like). It also holds string. My son is fifteen months and cannot force the toilet open. I will be puchasing another for our other bathroom.

This did not stick to our toilet well. I got it because liked that it did not touch the bowl, but with very little strength lifting the cover, the arm of the lock came off.

I have read some comments that people have found that the lock doesnt stick well to the toilet, or that it is hard to open. I havent found either to be the case.
It took me about 2 minutes to install, the tape has held like cement, and I have no trouble opening it with one hand.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a toddler like mine, who is constantly wanting to throw toilet paper in the toilet.

I had a feeling this would not work for our toilet lids because they have a contour on the lid near the back of the toilet. I installed it anyway even though the sticky pad did not completely touch the toilet lid. Sure enough, 5 months later (used in our guest bath, so not opened frequently) it came off. There is a big wad of sticky stuff on my toilet lid. I think it's a combination of the lack of seal with the sticky stuff and forceful guests who would rather fight with the lock than ask us how to use it that finally did it in. It worked great while it lasted but now I have to scrape that sticky stuff off of the lid and pry the other part off of the tank.

This lock works well and keeps the little toddler out of the toilet. Unfortunately it broke after maybe 6 months of use. The swivel plate is plastic and is attached to the base with metal machine screws. One of the screws sheared off and was stuck in the plastic. For only [$] I'm going to buy another one, but its sort of a pain. Two way tape works fine. Just be sure to clean the surfaces well prior to installation.

My son gets into everything and we have tried so many safety locks for cabinets, doors, stove, refrigerator, etc. However, this toilet lock is the only one we have found that my one year can not get open!

Maybe it was our toilet design, which is contoured, but lining up the swing-arm with the latch took at least an hour. As for the person who said they could open this with one hand - I wish you'd show us! We used it for nearly a year and never mastered that skill. Also, and maybe it's our toilet design again, the lid of the toilet would still open about 3 inches, enough for toys to get stuffed in. When we removed it, the adhesive stayed stuck on and required scraping. Finally, after a month or so, the swing arm didn't automatically snap back into the locked position - it stuck out at a 45 degree angle and we had to push it back into place. Fine for very small children who aren't enterprising enough to fiddle with the device, but I would suggest comparison shopping for something easier to live with.

I was disappointed that this product didn't last very long as it fit well and did a great job at keeping my toddler out. It needed to be re-attached 3x before the plastic broke and was no longer fixable.

This product has worked really great. It is also a lot easier to use than other ones out there. I bought a more expensive one thinking I would like it more, and I took it right back because it was such an inconvenience to use. I can open this with one hand, while even most adults can't figure it out without me showing them. However, if adults repeatedly try figure it out themselves and keep pulling it, eventually someone will rip it off. You can refasten it with double sided tape though. It may not happen to everyone; I actually saw a friend standing there trying to just pull the thing off instead of asking how it worked! She wasn't the only one, so, I am sure that had something to do with it. All in all, this has been great. I have one in both of my bathrooms and would buy this all over again.
