Everyone seems to be expect these things to work like a regular door knob or something, based on the rating, but I think they do their job. If it worked great enough to keep children in completely, it would keep all adults in as well. I have an older house (1979) manufactured building.
To be able to use this door knob cover we have to put it on backwards. The opening for the neck of the knob is too small to enable us to lock the cover shut. We turned it around to fit. With arthritic hands it's difficult for us to open the doors so it should keep our grandson from opening them.

We placed the door knob cover on our front door to discourage our 2-year old. Not even two days after placement, he figured out how to pull on the door knob cover and snap it apart within seconds.

The design is flimsy and unsafe. We're installing a chain lock instead.

Our toddler recently started letting herself out the front door of our house so we had to find a solution fast. This works! It's not that easy for my adult-sized fingers to squeeze into the little holes to open the door for myself, but I'd rather have that problem than find my child running toward the street.

My 1 year old figured out how to open this in about 2 seconds flat. He walks around the house playing with them. If you're looking for a toy for your child they're great. If you want to keep your child safe buy something else.

Do NOT waste your money on this one! It's easy for me to use, but my husband struggles with his larger hands to open the doors, which could be a problem in an emergency. But the worst part about this is that my 1 year old son can disassemble it. I'll put it back on and he's got it back off 2 seconds later.

Our main purpose in purchasing these was to keep our 2-year-old out of our bedroom, unsupervised, due to his recent interest in jumping on the bed. We also installed one on my husband's man-cave door, the bathroom door and our front door. It is difficult to use the lock on the front door now, but that is my only complaint.

Worked alright when we first got them (16 month old) kept him out of the bathroom, basement staircase, and doors leading outside. Also adult guests struggled to get out as well.

However if they were bumped into they fell apart, and my son is now 22 months and has figured them out and can take them off. Maybe its just he way childproofing goes, but I wish they were held together better or harder to get apart.

I currently have them taped together so they are harder to get off. Seems to be working so far. I have seen other styles I preferred though.

These work just fine. I think the key is to put them on BEFORE your kid starts fiddling with the doors- if they are just part of the landscape, they aren't as interested in defeating them. No problem fitting my standard Schlage doorknobs.

I replaced another brand doorknob cover with these. These have worked exactly as designed. I read the other reviews and I can see that perhaps over time a toddler or young child will be able to figure out how to defeat them, especially if he or she has grown enough in size and strength, but I have a very hard time trying to remove them and that's what it would take. I have standard-sized Schlage doorknobs (very common), so the covers sit loosely over them and rely on a larger-sized palm to use. There is no rubber lining or anything that makes it easier for an adult to use (and therefore MUCH easier for a child to figure out.) If in the future these fail, it will not be because these are a bad product, it will be because, as with any childproof item, my child has finally figured out how to defeat it.
