We got this gate for the bottom of the stairs. It works, as long as our 16 month old doesn't decide to give it a good yank. It's getting the job done but I would never use this at the top of the stairs.

It works but it's flimsy and it is very necessary to install the gate using the tension AND the hardware. We have a gate downstairs at the bottom of the stairs and my 10 month old daughter pulled it over on top of her tonight. The tension does not go tight enough. We installed the hardware for the top of the stairs and it works well enough, but it is flimsy. I have to hold one side to lock the other because it won't just shut using one hand. This gate is much cheaper than most and had good reviews, but you do get what you pay for really. Like I said it works but there are better gates out there....which means more expensive.

The gate overall is pretty flimsy. The metal bars are not welded neatly ( cosmetic issuer but it speaks to overall quality control) and the extension bar bends slightly when I tighten the lock. However the locking device is very easy to use.

We bought it to keep our 3.5y old in her room. My husband put it up tonight. She watched him do it once and within about 5 minutes she was opening and closing it herself (and trying to teach her 2y old sister, who i don't think is coordinated enough to do it but I would say any 3 year old would be able to open this after a few tries.) We will be returning it.
I am giving it 2 starts because if you have an infant that you need to keep safe then it should work, as long as you plan on not needing it for a long time.

This gate is the perfect fit for my house. After researching this gate I found that it goes 40 inches wide and is 31 inches tall. I set up the gate in less than ten minutes. It was super easy. The gate has held up to two kids and one dog no problem. It has a safety locking feature so when I am not around my kids can't open it. It is light weight and easy to take down for storage. On top of that the gate is literally half the price of most other gates on the market. I have recommended this safety gate to all of my friends. Five Stars!
