I was hoping for better sound quality...It sounds like wood... that is all. It is just OK to be used as a toy not a musical instrument.

As with other Plan Toys products, this is very solid and well-made. However, this xylophone has only halfway-decent sound quality - the notes are clunky and dull-sounding. The Plan Toys Solid Drum, on the other hand, produces beautiful, clear tones. It only makes three different notes, but in retrospect, I'd rather have three clear notes than five clunky ones. The benefit of the xylophone is that the notes are laid out in a line and color-coded - the common scheme in teaching musical development to young children... but if I wanted that, I'd rather go with the standard Hohner Glockenspiel. The Hohners are plastic and metal, so they lack the charm of the Plan Toys wood, but they cover at least one full octave, and the notes are clear and strong. The glockenspiel tone bars come off easily, and the rubber nubs they attach to can break off with abuse, so for a young child (under 3) I'd go only with the Solid Drum (and periodically check the head of the mallet to make sure it's on securely). All this said, the xylophone is still a decent toy, which our now-3-year-old son has gone back to intermittently over the years.

We bought this and the Plan drum. Our 9 month old daughter loves making music with this way better than the drum. It's good quality and best of all it's made of wood so there's no BPA or other chemicals to worry about.

This is a pretty wood toy that you can't do anything with. Not musical at all. If you want a xylophone, do not buy this.

This is okay but it's a bad musical instrument. The notes aren't in order and the tone is not pleasing. It's easy to use, durable, and looks attractive so it's not bad. I have the Plan Drum too and it is MUCH better. The drum comes with a rubber mallet and plays four different notes with wonderful tones. The drum is so wonderful I decided to get the xylophone too but it's not even close to the same quality.

The sound quality is not that great, but the nice thing is that it isn't powerfully loud. It's entertaining for my 9th month old...she loves it, but I feel the stick is a little dangerous. She loves to put everything in her mouth of course and I'm afraid she's going to fall forward with the stick in her mouth while sitting up. Another danger is the possiblity of poking herself in the eye while she's waving the stick around so enthusiastically. She does love it, but I would never leave her playing with this without a watchful eye. This definitely for an older child.

Love the idea of this green company and the use of non-toxic finishes as well as renewable rubber wood. Unfortunately, the musical tones are not logical, so it doesn't sound very nice to me. Seems sturdy and otherwise nice.

I love that it is made almost 100% from wood. I love that the wood chimes make soft but clear sounds. And I love that the stick to hit the chimes with isn't a choking hazard. A friend stepped on it, and it didn't break. I think we will have this for a long time.

My 21 month old son loves this wooden xylophone. It's not too loud to annoy us or our neighbors.
