This is a magically wonderful book! I LOVE it! It is the perfect book to start reading to your newborn. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the beautiful pictures aren't the most captivating for my one year old boy. I do, however, think he'll grow back into it around 3+ years. This is the perfect book to buy for a shower gift.

This may be the most beautiful story ever written. The words flow effortlessly yet the message is powerful. My son will listen calmly as the story lulls him to sleep. I cry just about every time I read it. The pictures are stunning. The first board book edition was introduced in 2010. It is smaller and easier for my 1 year old to handle, but some of the details can go unnoticed. I'm glad I have both versions. It is my absolute favorite!

Nancy Tillman puts the words you would say to your precious little one into perfect rhyme. The illustrations are whimsical. My 3 month old son enjoys this book very much, I do too! I am happy we purchased it, well worth the $$, it will be in our family for a long time, I'm sure.

This book is so sweet and heartwarming and as a parent you will feel like the author has captured the beauty and unique-ness of your love for your child. My daughter received this as a gift when she was 1 and I loved it right away.
At 1, she didn't really get it but listened politely. By 2 years old it was one of our favorites. She loves when the wind "whispers her name". It often prompts a conversation about what everbody else was doing the night she was born, too (ie, her grandparents, aunts, baby brother!). The illustrations and the content are better suited for 2 or 3 and up, I think. But I can see that this will remain among our favorites for a while. It was a lovely gift and brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.

I agree 100% with the other reviewers! This is the absolute best book I've ever found for gift-giving. I challenge you to find a mom anywhere who can resist the sweet message in this book. I received it as a gift from my sister-in-law when our son was born and it remains my favorite! Guaranteed to bring a few tears and a great big love swell in your chest!

This is the most beautiful book. I can never get through it without tearing up. It makes a wonderful gift for any new or expecting mother. The words and illustrations are gorgeous and help to convey how every child is unique. I truly think this is a book that you could give to any age child to reiterate how wonderful and unique they are. Messages such as "there will never be another you, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, heaven blew every trumpet and every horn on the marvelous night you were born...." etc. This is a classic book that will surely be each child's favorite for years to come.
