NurturMe Protein-Packed Quinoa

NurturMeals Protein-Packed Quinoa is the first and only certified-organic pure quinoa meal created for children 6 months to 4 years. Rich in nutrition and super versatile, NurturMeals Quinoa is a healthier alternative to rice cereal — simply mix it up, mix it in!

Mix it up for infants. Prepare NurturMeals Quinoa the same way as rice cereal by simply adding 3-5 tbsp. of breast milk, formula or water, and stir to reach the desired consistency. One pouch yields approximately 2.5 oz. of prepared food.

Mix it in for toddlers. Mix into toddler favorites like pastas, baked goods and yogurt for a boost in protein and additional nutrients.

A healthier choice than rice cereal. Native to the Andean region of South America, quinoa is a protein-packed super-grain with numerous nutritional benefits over rice cereal as an infant food, including the following:

  • Higher protein content supports growth
  • Possesses larger quantities of fiber, calcium, fat, iron, potassium, phosphorus and B vitamins
  • Supplies more antioxidant compounds
  • Provides essential amino acids
  • Gluten free
  • Easily and readily digestible
  • Not classified as one of the 8 major food allergens

Packed in recyclable materials made with wind energy, NurturMeals leave a smaller carbon footprint on our planet than the other options found in the baby aisle.

Recommended Age: 6 months to 4 years

Features:

  • USDA organic, gluten free, kosher
  • Non-GMO, no added sugar, salt or preservatives
  • A healthier alternative to rice cereal
  • Made from 100% pure super-grain
  • Simply add breast milk, formula or water to prepare
  • Drying preserves freshness and flavor

    Comments about Stage 1 Protein-Packed Quinoa - 8 pk:

We eat a lot of quinoa at home and love that our normal, adult quinoa has some healthy fats, fiber and naturally occurring iron (20% of adult DV in our adult servings). This is true across multiple brands of quinoa we have bought and is one of the reaons we have introduced quinoa into baby's diet.

I was glad to find this easy powdered variety thinking we could use it for the same nutrition without the labor of cooking and blending our adult quinoa. This has the same ingredients as the adult food (just quinoa), but the nutrition information says it has 0% DV of iron. How is that possible since quinoa naturally has some iron? Did the manufacturer somehow remove nutrition in the drying process or is the nutritional information just wrong?

Our infant has an oatmeal intolerance, and I was also hesitant to start rice cereal. Love the quinoa option and easy to digest..

            Comments about Stage 1 Protein-Packed Quinoa - 8 pk:

I love the idea of quinoa for added protein but this product misses the mark. I purchased this when my daughter was starting solids and thought it would be similar to the dry oatmeal i give her but i was very wrong. The product gets really clumpy and has an off putting color. I started making quinoa myself at 6 months the baby ate it fine. Real organic quinoa is way more affordable than this product. Good idea, poor delivery.

I was thrilled to see this versatile quinoa product on the market and have been very happy with it. I wish it had been around when my toddler was starting solids. I haven't had any issues with clumping. I mix it into yogurt and applesauce and my son loves it. I also bake it into zucchini bread and mix it into mac & cheese for added nutrition. I am pregnant with my second baby and will definitely use this as an alternative to rice cereal.

Mix it with breastmilk and this is a great way to feed protein and nutrient rich cereal to your baby! Since breastmillk is sweet my baby loves it. It is better than feeding your baby rice cereal because of its high protein content and it is not a grain but a cereal (Great for gluten sensitive babies!).

                  Comments about Stage 1 Protein-Packed Quinoa - 8 pk:

My DD's first food was NurturMe's Quinoa and I was so happy to be able to give her this protein packed meal rather than the "filler" rice cereal that I had given to my first two babies in 2007 and 2009. She is now 8 months and the quinoa is a staple of her diet. I mix the quinoa with banana, peas, avocado, pears and she LOVES it! I also mix the quinoa with NurturMe's Squash/Banana/Kale blend. I have exclusively breast fed my baby due to her food allergies so I was comforted by the certified organic pure quinoa that NurturMe offered. I am super happy with this quinoa and can only imagine that every parent would want to provide their child with a superior first food such as quinoa over the standard rice cereals.

While a great idea, this formulation just does not mix well. It remains lumpy and clumpy no matter how much water /formula/ breastmilk/ fruit puree you add and how long you mix it. And it looks like gruel :( My son did not like it at all, and he eats everything. HOWEVER, I do not waste, and I was able to get my son to eat this by adding it to other foods (mixing with Oatmeal, sprinkling into purees, etc. If it was added to a food, it was fine, but if it was the primary food, it was a no-go.
