Pretty much any Melissa and Doug product is of great quality.
We received this and a few other 12 piece M&D puzzles as a hand-me-down from a family I used to babysit. I know they were already well-used b/c we played with them a lot when I babysat - but they were still in great condition (and two years later, they're still good)!
My son is a couple months away from 3 and he loves putting these puzzles together all by himself. When he resists nap, I set him up with a few of them in his room and he will sit quietly and put the pieces together. I think I need to get him a few others, and maybe some with more pieces to keep him entertained.

The only thing I do not like about the wooden puzzles is that the wood can warp and make it difficult to put the pieces together. Now that I think about it, if a cardboard puzzle got wet, it'd be ruined completely...so I'll give that 5th star back :) My son actually threw up on one of these puzzles and we just wiped everything down quickly...good as new :)
