My daughter loves farm animals and I thought this would be a fun toy for her. Unfortunately I agree with many of the other reveiws. The thing doesn't work half the time and then the other times it will go off randomly. I'm not real happy with the purchase and would not recommend to others.

This is a nice puzzle. Unfortunately, the animal noises are very fuzzy sounding and unrealistic. This would be better without any noises.

The puzzle disappoints right away - the sounds either occasionaly don't work, or the other way around - start to sound continuously without anyone/anything touching the board.

I bought this for my son, because he loves puzzles and animals. I thought it would be fun to buy him one that made the animal sounds. I do really enjoy this product when we are playing with it, but I don't like the fact that you can't turn it off. I've had issues where it has made noise randomly (not a good thing in the middle of the night) and so I've had to take out all the pieces to ensure that there wouldn't be any problems. It is also very loud with no volume control.

My son received this puzzle for his first birthday and it is so horrible. The animal sounds go off all the time, even without the peices. I took the batteries out of it the first night we had it. Now he plays with it without animal sounds.

Like many other reviewers, I find that any piece from the puzzle will trigger the sound of an animal that the piece is near. I have also found that the sounds will go off when no one is even near the puzzle. I read all the other comments and wonder if they changed the product. The first few reviewers thought this was great, then every reviewer since has consistently had the same complaints.

My daughter likes playing with this toy but the animal sounds are not that great. Plus they randomly go off if all the pieces are not properly in place. But then other times, the sounds don't go off at all when she (or I) put the animal back in its spot. We have other Melissa and Doug puzzles that she (and I) like WAY better.

This puzzle is poorly designed and the sound quality is horrible. If a piece is missing you will randomly hear the odd/muffled-sounding animal noises. It makes you immediately want to remove the batteries (unfortunately there is no switch to turn off the sound).

Melissa & Doug toys are typically great but definitely skip this one.

Sound quality is bad (much worse than even cheap plastic toys), and many of the animals sound creepy. And it makes the animal sound whenever any puzzle piece moves over it (b/c it's light sensitive), so there's no excitement over getting the right puzzle piece in the right place. My son loves anything that makes animal noises and he loves puzzles, but he doesn't like this.

If a piece is missing it will continue to make that missing animal sound whenever a shadow hits the toy. My son plays with it once in a while. Sounds dont always go off when he outs pieces in and he gets aggrevated. Maybe if it rewarded the child everytime it would be better...and if it had an on and off switch. I'm tired of being oinked at when I walk by the puzzle.

I am disappointed in this puzzle. I love my other Melissa and Doug peg puzzles. The sound effects are not the best quality. Also, my daughter just has to place any piece over the hole for the sound to go off. That is not exactly teaching her what animal make what sound.

Melissa & Doug puzzles are great. My son has loved them since he was first able to play with them at 11 months old... but be warned! This puzzle is photo-sensitive and if you don't have all the pieces put away on it, when you turn the lights out it will make the sound of the uncovered piece! (Scared the heck out of me the first time it happened!) The kitten sound is very creepy and unfortunately was the sound I heard when I first discovered the photo-sensitivity. Coincidentally, our dog ate the kitten piece and my husband ended up gouging the respective chip out of the puzzle board so it would stop making that horrible "kitten" noise when we turned the lights off at night! Eek! Other than this, it's a keeper. :) Ha ha!

I bought this for my 16 month old. He loves it and plays with it often. It is very good for coordination development. He enjoys the animals and the sounds.

Its great. I bought this for my 1st son and now my 2nd son uses it as well. it makes aniaml noises each time you put the puzzle piece in the correct location.

This puzzle is great. If I start putting the pieces in and my son hears the animal noises he comes running to join in on the fun. The sound is not the greatest...but they get the point across.
