my mother got this book for my son. i mean i get the message of this book, but its totally depressing. i have not read it to my two year old and i dont really want to. this is just so sad honestly. please dont get it.

My mother read this to me as a child and it was a special story just for us. She didn't read it to my sister, only me. I loved the story and the time my mother and I spent reading it. I am nearly 30 and my mom still quotes this book to me. Its a story of unconditional love, which is something all children should know they have. It would be lovely in a board book version for younger children.
