Nice until you want the online features.

First the good: My 2 year old loves this computer. He loves that it looks so much like mommy and daddy's computers. He loves all of the noises and songs that the computer comes with.
Now the bad: If you want any of the online features (and the computer will repeatedly try to get your kid to 'check his email') then you have to register online and give all sorts of personal information about your child - name, birthday, gender etc. We emailed them and asked if there was another way to get the online features, they sent back their privacy policy. Great, you won't send my kid's info to someone else, but you would still collect information about my 2-year-old. I think this is rediculous and extremely frustrating. We have chosen not to get all oft he cool 'extras' because of this issue.

Grandma got this for my daughters first bday, and it has been a hit ever since...and she just turned two! At the younger age, it was the music she enjoyed the most and watching Violet dance on the screen.

Then she started getting into the actual alphabet and animal aspect of this laptop. Its fun that it says her name too!

We also love Violet the stuffed dog that does even more personalized stuff like singing songs with my daughters name added in, talking about a color , animal, food that my daughter loves, etc.

The ONLY thing i would change is for it to have a backlight. Its very hard to see the screen in good light, and forget it in poor light. Its the kind of item that would be great to sit in a crib for self-entertaining purposes if mommy doesnt want to get out of bed as early as baby, but without a light, it;s not functional for that. So we actually have a different laptop in her crib that lights up.

This is a very cool toy for your toddler/pre-schooler (previous reviewer mentioned a 6-month-old... that is way too young for this toy; I'd say 18 months and up).

We've had ours for about a year. My parents gave it to my now 3.5-year-old. She and her 18-month-old sister both play with. It has an alphabet setting, a music setting, and an animal sounds setting. The younger one isn't actually learning her letters, but she likes the animal noises that it makes.

The best part however, is that you can go to the brand's website, download a little bit of software, hook up the Leaptop to your computer and personalize it so that it actually says your child's name! (that may sound complicated, but I think it took more effort to type out that sentence than it did to actually personalize the Leaptop). However, this may not be as easy if you have a child with a very unique name... my daughter's name is pretty common so it was a preset option. I'm not sure how it would work with a name that isn't easy to pronounce.

This toy has proven to be especially useful for long roadtrips.

Bought it for my 6.5 months son. Had for 2 weeks now. I think he is too young for it. He likes the sounds and the buttons but all he wants to do is leak it. Has interesting features: alphabet; animal sounds! I would say it's educational too, but I don't like the questions it asks when you press the buttons. They ar too generic: I.e who is black and white? Well a lot of animals are b& w. Overall, I like the toy and my son seems to enjoy it , plus it keeps him busy for a bit. Maybe he will like it more when he is a little older.
