easy to put together, we did end up buying another peice of wood to put on the opposite side of the wall to prevent the dry wall from tearing if the kids are hanging on it - but it is a great gate!

This product was easy to install and works great. Please note: There is drilling involved in the installation. You do not drill into your banister but from one part of the kit to another. These cannot be predrilled by the company because everyone's banisters are different and they would not line up correctly. That is why you are required to drill them. The directions are easy to follow and took only 30 minutes max. to install. We are very happy with this product. FYI- if you have a banister on each side you will need 2 kits. That is the only downside. For the price and what you get, I think they should include 2.

We purchased this installation kit to install the Kidco top of stairs safety gate on the second floor of our home. We didn't want to use a pressure mounted gate because there is a piece of metal that sits at the bottom opening of those gates that could be a trip hazard.

We wanted to install a secure gate without drilling holes into our stair post. Once installed, the gate seems to be very secure, but it was not easy to install. The problem is that the wooden slates and hard plastic pieces do not have predrilled holes. The box says no drilling, but they are only talking about drilling holes into your staircase post. The wood slates that are included in the kit are extremely hard to drill through. We had to take a trip the the local hardware store to buy a new 5/32 drill bit to get through the wood. It took well over an hour to install the kit. The company can improve this product by pre-drilling the holes.

This was a great purchase for our family and fits our stairway posts perfectly. We have a post that has a round top and square bottom, so this will work for you if you have the same style (as pictured in the product photos). It helps to have two people install this so someone can hold up the various parts while the other person drills/screws/secures everything, but it's easy and quick to install. It is incredibly sturdy and nothing moves, wiggles or squeaks. We have a pressure/tension mount gate attached to this at the top of the stairs and nothing will budge even when our 1 year old grabs it and tries to shake it free.

Screws dont stay in bracket. If they used a nut and lock washer it would work.

This is a nice and good product once it is installed, but the directions are terrible and have your questioning yourself every step of the way. It took nearly 3 days of deciphering and laying out pieces and 2 people to get it set up. Now that it is installed, we really like it. Just frustrating initially.

Wish we could use it but we have a round post and no square base, this kit only comes with one round fitting, so unless I am willing to fork out the price of another set (which will make this installation kit more expensive than the gate itself !!), I can't use it. Kidco if you are listening, you should rethink your design !!

After spending [$]on two kits for the bottom of my stairs, the gate fell off within a week. The screws provided are not long enough to be used with the shims (even the longer screws). The other screws did not stay in the plastic clamps with the opening and closing of the gate. For [$] a kit, the proper hardware should be included. I plan on writing the company and asking for a refund.

Adapts one round or square post to accept baby gate so you don't drill into your wood. We have an extra tall 36" gate, so we had to run to the hardware store for a longer piece of wood than was supplied. [stained it to look better] Worked for our generously sized square base and round top post. However only ONE round adapter is provided (and 2 square) so if your post is round top + bottom you're outta luck.

This worked great for us, we didn't have to ruin our staircase or rails, only downfalls are that it twist a bit after a while so it need readjustment to click closed (I use my foot to shut it) and it squeeeeeks! :)
