I bought this to save our railing and banister. Unfortunately, the piece of wood included is too thin, so we ended up having to drill a couple holes in the railing anyway. The twist ties were a joke and broke after first tightened. We ended up having to buy another piece of wood an more twist ties. It made me wonder why we needed the adapter if we had to supplement materials for it.

Pros:
* we FINALLY found a solution so we didn't have to drill our beautiful banisters (both sides)
* it was very easy to install and when we're done it will be just as easy to get rid of
* the price was right. I'm sure we could have made our own version cheaper but I don't have that kind of time right now

Cons:
* it looks cheap. I went and bought "wood" contact paper to cover it. It's just an unfinished wood stick which is disappointing when we spent the money on a nice gate
* it isn't very thick so my husband had to find shorter screws to use (for the gate). The ones that came with the gate would have gone through this and into our banister.

My husband didn't have a problem drilling into this wood.

This item is a complete waste of money. It's a great concept, since it allows you to install your kidco gate without drilling into your banister, however, it's just a piece of wood. Nothing else! I could have bought the exact same thing at [...] for less than $1. What is worse is that we couldn't even use it because the piece of wood was too hard. We tried to use the screws that came with the matching gate, but the screws stripped too easily. We bought our own screws and BROKE 3 of them trying to screw them into this piece of wood! I have never had a screw break on me in my life!! You would think if they are selling just a piece of wood for [$], it would at least be soft enough to screw into to! This was a BIG disappointment! Save your money and buy a basic piece of wood at a home improvement store.
