Though the illustrations may seem gaudy, that is part of the charm. Frankly the text doesn't get better than this for children (and adults) with rhyme and repetition effortlessly executed: there is a reason it is still published all these years later.

My toddler really likes the moon right now and so enjoys this book. Has alot of bright colored pictures. She doesn't really understand much of it yet but loves the pictures and reference to the moon.

This book puts my baby to sleep instantly.. for me its boring and repetitive but it works with my little baby so I don't have any complains!

This book is wonderful! We received this as a shower gift before my daughter was born. From birth she seemed to enjoy the rhythm of the rhymes. She is now 11 months old and we read it as part of her nightly bedtime routine. She LOVES it. She enjoys pointing to all the items as we say goodnight to them.

My 10 month old daughter loves books, so I bought this one (thinking it was part of the Good Night Our World series, which it isn't) and I have to say, it's really, really not good. The illustrations switch from (very small - someone give me a magnifying glass!) black and white illustrations to full page, full color illustrations. And the text / "story" is completely disjointed. One page will show a picture of a moon, the next a very small (VERY small) black and white picture of a mouse... "and this is a Mouse!" Why?? My daughter pushes this book away every time I try to read it to her and grabs for her favorite "Good Night San Francisco" book.

If the parent likes this book and reads it in a fun, sing-songy way, the child will love it too. (Not in all cases of course). We love it. I let my 2 yr old son finish the last word on each page. I think it helps with his word recognization/reading skills.

This might not be the greatest story every written, but it's great because of the repetition in the story. I used to read this to my child every night from the time he was just a few months old, and I believe, it is what helped him start speaking at an early age.
