I purchased 2 of these gates once my son started crawling, we also have a small dog and it keeps both of them on our middle floor. We live in a townhouse so we have steep staircases. We have them at the bottom and top of the stairs and I feel completely comfortable knowing my son will be safe. I love that they swing close but I still double check that they are locked and never had a case where it didn't. My 10 month old will try and shake the gate and it won't budge (as long as you install it correctly). I can easily open the gate with one hand and it swings both directions. They were also easy to install, we only had to use one extension for each gate. I'm planning to get another one for our son's bedroom for when he transitions to the toddler bed. My only con is that this brand gate is really hard to find in stores, only online.
