We use this bed rail on our queen-size matress (has a pillow-top). I like that it is extra tall and extra long (compared to standard bed rails). It works great for Mommy and Daddy's bed. I love that we can just drop it down when the child is not in our bed! You do not have to disassemble or remove the bed rail when it is not in use!

The downsides: It does have a horizontal bar through the middle that is kind of strange. I think it may purposefully push the bedrail out from the side of the mattress by an inch (I am guessing??). I find that a little strange, but it doesn't seem to effect the eficiency of the product. Also I think the tightening device on the safety strap is a bit more complicated than it needs to be, but it does function. Also, when I fold the bedrail down when not in use, I have to lift and set the entire bed rail to get it to be flush with the side of the matress. Basically, our bed is not tall enough to store the bed rail out of the way of your feet. I think our bed is standard height.

We purchased this for co-sleeping (even though it's not recommended for children under 2) but it would not attach to our soft-top mattress without leaving a big gap. It also wobbled. Being sent back right away.

I did a ton of research on another site before coming to this site to buy...and somehow I missed that this can only be used for adult beds. My son has a 54in bed, so I thought this would be long enough that he couldn't fall out. Wrong. This totally covered the space, so within seconds, he was trying to climb over. With the midrail, the side becomes heavier than the bottom, so if the mattress isn't heavy, it can pull out, or pull mattress off of bed- creating dangerous crack. You could "rig" to work with platform bed, but the hinges are big and would be in the way, as well as damage the wood finish of your bed.

My parents were taking our 2+ year old daughter for an overnight visit. She will no longer stay in a crib, pack and play, etc. At home she sleeps in a day bed turned backwards against a wall. Anyway, I sent this (in the box) along with her other bags for the trip. My dad didn't complain about putting it together and my parents said she was very excited to sleep in a "big girl" bed. They said she went right off to sleep and slept safely in the middle of a full sized bed all night. Keep in mind that she had no nap that day so she was completely exhausted. I said it was affordable because if she rolled out of the bed and hurt herself the hospital bills would have been more than the cost of the bed rail!
