This was a gift for my preemie son, and it worked its magic from the very beginning. We hung it on the side of his crib, and the "mother's heartbeat" setting lulled him to sleep. He's now almost 17 months old, and he falls asleep every night cradling his giraffe. We bought the travel-sized one for trips, and we're buying a second full-size one to have as back-up, in case the first one gets too raggedy from hugs and drool!

I received the Gentle Giraffe as a gift for my son...he has been lulled to sleep by his giraffe since birth; today he is 13 months old...and still very much relies on hearing his giraffe as he drifts off to sleep. In fact, wherever we go-be it travel or sleepovers at grandma/grandpa's, his giraffe is always with us.
Overall, we love it!

The Gentle Giraffe is loved by our entire family! My preemie son had trouble sleeping early on and we tried several different white noise products. This one did the trick. Now that our little guy has moved to the crib my husband and I have found that we struggle to sleep without the sound of Victoria Falls. The only down side is that there's not an option to keep it going all night. It allows for 23 or 45 minutes only so we have to turn it on throughout the night.

The only thing I can think of to improve this product is to reinforce the stiching on its "handle" that is used to hang it. My older son popped the stitching on it carrying it everywhere. I do not hang it because it is the only thing he sleeps with and he will NOT take a nap or get into bed without it; period. We use Giraffe and Turtle for bedtime and he is such a happy camper. :) He likes the sounds on the second button from the top best. We are even getting him the on the Go version for longer car trips.

When my son's Sleep Sheep konked out, I decided to try the Gentle Giraffe, which turned out to be a huge mistake. The noises are NOT soothing or gentle at all. They're really quite terrible, in fact-- nothing at all like the Sleep Sheep, which produces soothing waves, rain and whale noises. I really thought the giraffe would bring new, enjoyable sounds, but the beat seems inconsistent, it incorporates growling noises that are downright frightening and the heartbeat simulation sounds like something from a horror film. I was so disappointed with this item. Don't make the same mistake I did. Stick with the Sleep Sheep-- much more sleep friendly.
