      • Avent Comfort Breast Shell Set

Philips AVENT comfort breast shells protect sore, cracked nipples and provide relief from engorgement during or between pumping and nursing. The ventilated inner shell, padded by a soft silicone cushion, gently presses on the areola, creating a slow trickle of milk. The outer shell prevents leaks, holding the milk until it can be collected or discarded. The silicone shells and pads can be sterilized in any Philips AVENT sterilizer or by boiling.

        Shields Sore, Cracked Nipples

Philips AVENT comfort breast shells create a shield for nipples tender from breastfeeding. The soft silicone backing cushion fits snugly into your bra to protect you from chafing. The outer shell fits on top of the inner shell to hold released milk.

Collect Milk While Nursing or Pumping

While feeding or pumping, the closed breast shells can be placed against the non-nursing breast. Gentle pressure on the areola allows for a slow release of milk, easing engorgement and collecting the leaked milk for later feeding. A pouring spout aids in transferring milk to a sterilized bottle.

Release Between Feedings to Relieve Pressure

Comfort breast shells can also be worn between feedings to release a small amount of milk, relieving the discomfort and pressure of unexpressed milk. Only milk collected while pumping or feeding should be fed to your baby, as milk collected over a long period of time can become contaminated.

        Easy to Sterilize

The shells and backing cushions can be sterilized with any Philips AVENT steam sterilizer or by boiling. Comfort breast shells should not be worn for more than 40 minutes at a time due to a risk of excess pressure on milk ducts.

Prepare to get stares if you where them in public. Don't lean over or sleep in them or they leek. Great for first few months when you don't really leave the house. Leaves your nipples feeling normal instead of sore.

        Comments about Comfort Breast Shells:

I had something similar with first baby, and was happy to find these and use them right from the start. These are the reason I was able to successfully continue to nurse. If you suffer from sore nipples and breasts, these prevent your nipples from touching anything in between feedings, and help relieve some of the pressure from engorgement. Walking around with breasts air drying is not practical solution for most moms.
You can save quite a bit of milk from leakage as well with these.
Of course using the shields with the holes and then bending over during the day is going to end in leaks.

They do get the job done, but I would never wear these outside of the house. They are very visible unless you are wearing heavy clothing and make your breasts look very weird. They definitely protect your nipples and stay put well. However, I noticed they kind of stick to you and its a little bit uncomfortable when you pull them off if you are already sore.

            Comments about Comfort Breast Shells:

I love these shells. I used to have a set back in 2003-2004 with my first daughter. She was 17 weeks early and in the hospital for 6 months. I had a lot of engorgement and also needed a large supply of stored milk. Using the hospital grade pump (I called it the Super Extractor Vaccuum) was painful on my nipples. I never felt more relief in my entire life when I received these as a gift from the lactation specilaist. Before these I was in tears from the pain of my engorged, cracked, chaffed and sore nipples. It was a life saver because I would have given up else wise. I was finally able to begin breastfeeding her at 6+ months and we managed to continue for her first year. I gave all of my breastfeeding gear away after my first daughter. When I had my second daughter it was horrible to breast feed. I would have made it longer than four months if I could have found these in the store. Now with my son 3 weeks due, I am estatic to have found these again and am finally looking forward to breastfeeding. I am so very very very happy. My nerves are much more calmer now that these are ordered.

I did not feel that the description was clear...You will receive 2 silicone nipple pieces, 2 shells with holes to air out your sore nipples and 2 non-hole shells to collect milk in while breast feeding!! I was happily surprised!

For breastfeeding: It works best with a snug bra to best hold it in place on the breast that is not in use. The maximum capacity is .5oz, so you may need to empty it during feeding or you can have the other one on hand and switch!! I used it in a side-lying position as well as seated positions and it worked well. Compared to the price for just one 'Milk-Saver' this is a huge bargain!!!

For Sore Nipples: Please follow the directions!! This is for a maximum of 40 minutes wear time because you will continue to leak while wearing it as it puts gentile pressure on your areola and can alter your milk supply.

Overall: They do look super goofy under your bra but are not for going out in just for catching milk while feeding and to allow air to get on your nipples to help prevent a yeast infection (that can occur from too much moisture on the nipples)So when used as intended they are great!

These worked great for me. The only problem I encountered was, they would leak when they became full. If your breastmilk flow is heavy, you would have to monitor the level of milk in the cups to prevent leaks. I recommend that you do not sleep in them due to these leaking problems. They were amazing with preventing engorgement pain. Although, they were a little embarrassing to wear in my bra and especially under my clothes.

I have large breasts (40G) and nipples. These shells left painful red circles around my nipples, even while using as advised: 40 mins or less. If you have large nipples or breasts, stay away from this product.

I loved these, I popped one in on the off side when I breastfed and collected the milk, I just couldn't let it go to waste, it helped me build quite the backup supply of milk, and saved on buying breastpads.

Comments about Avent Comfort Breast Shells:

I like these because at night I was soaking through my breast pads which was very uncomfortable. These come with two sets of shells. One that allows air in, and one that collects breast milk. I wear the collection shells at night and it keeps me from soaking myself. It also relieves engorgement. Definitely something I would recommend for anyone who plans on nursing their baby. This is also a good thing to have if you have a single pump because it can collect the milk from the breast that is not being pumped and you don't have to waste any milk!

These worked within a minute or two to relieve my engorgment immediately prior to feeding and prevented spraying and choking my poor baby! It was logistically easier than manually expressing.

This was the best thing I had when I first starting nursing. My breasts were so ingorged that my baby could not even get her mouth around the nipple. Wearing these shields helped to make the nipple protrude so she could get ahold of it. Also if your breasts leak the milk will fall into the breast shield and not all over your clothes. I only wore them for the first couple months and then everything worked itself out, but these were a must for me. I could not have breastfed without them.
