      • Avent Nipple - Slow Flow

The Classic Philips AVENT slow-flow nipple lets infants up to six months old control the flow of milk like they do with breastfeeding, preventing overeating and spit-up. Philips AVENT's anti-colic valve flexes to keep air in the bottle, rather than in your baby's tummy, a feature that has been clinically proven to reduce fussiness* and colic** in two-week-old infants. Classic Philips AVENT nipples are made of durable, dishwasher-safe silicone and are compatible with any Classic Philips AVENT bottle. These nipples are BPA free.

        Anti-Colic Valve Curbs Fussiness

The Classic nipples feature an anti-colic valve that allows air to flow into the bottle instead of into your baby's tummy, reducing fussiness*. In a clinical trial, two-week-old infants fed with a Classic Philips AVENT bottle experienced less colic than babies fed with a conventional bottle**.

        Two-Hole Nipple Provides Slow-Flow Feeding

Appropriate for babies at least one month old, these two-hole nipples offer a slow flow. Babies can control the flow of milk like they do when breastfeeding, which reduces spit-up and overeating. You can use these slow-flow nipples with all Classic Philips AVENT bottles and bottle rings so you can customize bottles to your baby's needs.

Soft, Rounded Nipple Made of Durable Silicone

The soft, rounded nipple is made of silicone that resists discoloring and stickiness and is scent and taste free. This promotes natural feeding, helping your baby switch between breast and bottle with ease. These BPA Free nipples are dishwasher safe and can be sterilized by boiling for five minutes or by using any Philips AVENT steam sterilizer.

        About Philips AVENT

Comments about Classic Nipple - Slow Flow:

My son is 3 months old. I was using the breastflow bottles, but I found that the nipples would collapse very easily and if I loosened the ring the bottle would leak.
So I switched to the Avent bottles. I bought a single 8/9oz bottle in the store and it came with this nipple. My son had no problem with it. He's drinking 8oz and mixing the formula in the bottle was a problem because there wasn't much excess room for the powder. So we bought the 11oz bottles here, diapers.com. But they came with the #3 nipples, they were waaaayyy to fast. He choked so much!
I don't care what the age recommendations are for these nipples, this one is fast enough for my 3 month old. My recommendation is to start off with the #1 and if you need to, the go up to this one.

My daughter is 4.5 months old and just now switching to this size 2 nipple. She was happy with size 1 (newborn) until 4 months; now she is only using 2's. Great product, but beware of the "slow flow" label =o)

Comments about Classic Nipple - Slow Flow:

I love Avent bottles & nipples, however if your baby is under 3 months old you *most likely* will need to use the newborn size nipple.

My twins are almost 4 months old (and very aggressive feeders) and I have just now attempted to transition them to this (so-called) slow-flow nipple... Both my son & daughter do very well w/the Dr. Brown/Born Free medium flow nipples but their suck is rather strong and they quickly collapse the Dr. Brown & Born Free nipples. They have not managed to collapse Avent yet, but I have consistently used the newborn size nipples with them.

When I introduced this "slow" flow nipple, my daughter looked very puzzled at the speed with which she was getting the milk out of the bottle and my son gagged immediately. So, three feedings later my daughter is doing very well with this "slow" nipple & finishes her 6-oz bottles in half the usual time, while my son is still on the newborn flow as his learning curve seems a bit steeper than my daughter's when it comes to flow speed :)

If you are thinking of buying these nipples for when you have the baby --please do yourself a favor and get a couple of newborn flow nipples, too! They are harder to find in stores and you most likely will need them... I would not want to see a newborn try to tackle this "slow" flow; it was scary enough seeing my almost 4 months old son try to negotiate all the milk he got out in one suck with this nipple!

My daughter had no problems switching back and forth between breast and bottle with these, HOWEVER, I found that it was better if we used the nipples for younger aged babies. She was used to the breast and a slower flow and would choke if she got too much at once. She is 6.5 months now and we are just now moving to #3 exclusively (#3 is supposed to be 3 months and up).

Flow judgement is relative - my 2.5 month old daughter finds these too fast since she is normally on the breast. I thought slow flow meant size 1 so this was misleading.

I have a three month old in my care and when I first got her the mother had her on a fegular bottle feeding system and she was very fussy after eating and she would bring up as much as she had eaten so I bought her one set of the four oz. and tried her on them and she has had no problem with spitting up and she is much more happier after feedings and now her parents also use them at home and have also seen a big difference in her.

I usually breast feed my 2 months old son and dad takes care of him with bottle when I need a break. We tried all different kinds of bottles and this is the closest one to the breast feeding and my son has no complaint for taking my breast milk from this. I think 2 holes makes so much better flowing the milk and not so much leaking compare to other brand.

I am a mother of a 19 lb 4 month old baby girl. I purchased these bottles after using gerber bottles with disposable liner. The avent bottles w/nipple were just as easy probally even easier to clean then the gerber bottles. You can clean the bottles with a regular sponge instead of one of those akward brushes. I have recently bought the variable flow nipples and all my daughter seems to do is choke on them. She still perfers the newborn nipple. The only thing that really, really irritates me is the leaking aroung the white plastic ring. Even when I shake the bottle over a sink to make sure it doesn't leak the bottle will still leak after that now its not all the time but even just once in a while is irritating enough. I can't remember how many time my diaper bags have gotten all soaked from the bottles. Other than that they would be just great. I still think they are good bottles. I just think they need some improvement And with how much I paid for them that shouldn't be to much to ask from the avent company!

this bottle system is absolutely wonderful. I just wanted to reply to the comment about the nipple and lip of the bottle leaking, sometimes it does leak, it seems when the formula is too warm it does so very easily, and if you take it apart and just put it back together, it will continue to leak. I've found that wiping off the treads on the bottle and lid, and around the base of the nipple on the inside completely dry before reassembling the bottle fixes the problem. :) good luck, and i hope you enjoy these bottles as much as we do.
