I find that the #1 misunderstanding about sunscreen (for adults as well as children) is that it should be applied while in the sun. WRONG. If you plan to be in the sun, you should be putting sunscreen on indoors, at least 30 minutes prior to being outside. Yes, this requires some naked time, but being a pale skinned person myself, its worth it to not have teeny tiny sunburns where my suit rubbed it off.

All of that said, I think application in a dry, cool, indoor area could negate 90% of the negative comments on this product. Rashes are another story. My 9 month old had no problems with it, and she has sensitive skin/ eczema. It DOES however, have a little pilling effect, but this by no means indicates that its not rubbing in. On the contrary, I can smell it on her 6 hours after she's been outside with the nanny.

Luckily, I was looking for an effective sunblock and not perfume for my daughter... This doesn't stink, it's just not over-perfumed. Nearly ALL sunblock has a distinctive odor. If it doesn't, chances are it may be overly masked with perfumes or ineffective as it does not contain the proper ingredients. My daughter is two and I have used this since birth. I have tried a few other brands and always come back to this. She is EXTREMELY fair and burns easily. Yes, I have the occasional white streak around her eyebrows or hairline that I can't get rid of. The important thing is that she's never been burned once. We've used this in pools and as long as I wait the 20 or so mins recommended by doctors before heading out it sets well and doesn't run. If I rush it, it WILL run all over and sting her eyes- but that's my mistake, not product inefficiency. I have been very happy with this product and my little girl doesn't so much as get a tan line.

While I don't have similar issues as other negative reviewers (no rash, easy to rub in, fine scent), I have my own complaints. As soon as I put this sunscreen on my son's face (indoors in no heat), it began to melt and run into his eyes. He started screaming and rubbing his eyes, which of course only made the sting/burn worse. I generally like Aveeno products, but I do not recommend this sunscreen.

We used this last summer on our one year old who has eczema and super sensitive skin. No rashes, no sunburn, no problems! We also use the Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen - I think the Aveeno rubs in more easily.

I purchased the sunblock at [...] and when I came across it on Diapers.com I was very surprised by the 3 star rating. I love Aveeno products, so when I was looking at sunblock for my 6 1/2 month old, I thought I'd go with a brand I trust. I used it the same day I bought. Being that we were at the beach and my son already had red cheeks from the day before, I lathered him in it. It went on smoothly, didn't leave a rash, and didn't leave my hands feeling all sunscreeny. Like all sunblocks out there i reapply often. The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts, is because I don't know how it does in the water since it does wash off fairly easily in the bath.

My wife and I have used this for our now 2 year-old daughter for the past two summers. Our daughter has eczema and gets rashes easily. She also has a peanut allergy, so we stay away from nut-based products. With skin and other products, I'm of the mind that I shouldn't put anything on myself that I'm not comfortable putting on my daughter - so I've used this too.

This sunscreen goes on smoothly and evenly. It has not caused any rash. It doesn't appear to increase itching. It smells fine (maybe my kid just doesn't smell?) It seems to give good UV protection - my daughter hasn't gotten sunburned at daycare, the beach, or elsewhere. It washes off easily with the evening shower.

For swimming, though, we've tended to use Waterbabies sunscreen, just in case this doesn't stay on in the water. (We haven't really "tested" if this is waterproof.)

A bit pricier than some sunscreens, but reliable.

(Disclosure: nothing to disclose, no vested interest in the success of the product except inasmuch as it stays on the market, I can buy it.)

This is the only sunscreen my daughters (4, 2, and 3 months) are not allergic to. We have tried others, my 4-year old got a bad rash on her face, then their eyes hurt as the sunscreens melted on their faces and a little bit got into their eyes but this one works great and does not bother them at all. I found it actually easier to put on than others too. Smell isn't bad either. We live in Southern California so we use it every day in the summer and I am happy it exists. Wish it was a little cheaper.

I love all the Aveno baby products I have bought so I thought the sunscreen would be just as great...I was very wrong! The sunscreen seem to just ball up while I rubbed it onto my baby's skin and on his bald little head it left white spots all over and WOULDN'T rub in! I think the most disappointing thing is that it doesn't even smell good like the rest of the Aveno products. I spent [$] on this tube that I would rather not use again!

My daughter doesn't necessarily have sensitive skin and this sunscreen gives her a rash everytime. The first few times I blamed it on the sun not the sunscreen until I realized it was the s/s. I trusted Aveeno not with this though! DO NOT BUY.

I'm not sure why the other reviews are so negative. I find this sunscreen just as easy/hard to apply as any other sunscreens that come in lotion form and works just fine in preventing sunburn as long as you apply it properly. You can't put it on right before you go in the pool - you need to apply it 15-20 minutes beforehand to let it soak in. In fact, you are supposed to apply this 15-20 minutes before going out in the sun, too.

This sunscreen is fragrance free (maybe the bad smell that other people complain of is actually the LACK of a perfume smell?) and is one of the only sunscreens that I can wear because of my extremely sensitive skin. And it's very convenient that my son and I use the same sunscreen. We've been using it since he was a tiny baby, and you can't do that with all suncreens.

I'm very happy with this sunscreen.

I bought this for my 10 old while at disney world. Suncreen was thick and rolled up into little pieces, it had strong smell, stained clothes- clothes smelled wash after wash like product, my baby burned and it irratated his eyes along with my 4 and 6 year old who said it burnt their eyes! I spent way to much money and it was junk! I plan on calling company after seeing all these complaints!

This gave my little guy with sensitive skin a rash too! Glad I read the other reviews, because it's the first sun-screen I tried and was afraid all sun screens would have this affect. I'll be checking out the california baby after reading it's reviews. Wish me luck!
