Easton Pop-Up Multi-Sport Training Net Have a budding soccer star, big league pitcher, or quarterback in your midst? Pick up Easton's 5-foot pop-up training net, an ideal practice aid for any sport in which accuracy matters (most of them, in other words). The net sets up in a variety of configurations: a catch net that's great for batting practice or working on your soccer fundamentals; a goal for lacrosse, field hockey, and similar sports; and a target that helps refine your pitching/QB skills. The net even comes with an adjustable, removable target hole, letting you finely hone your pitch location or work on your long-distance passing touch. And thanks to the net's durable steel flatwire construction, the unit will stay upright and secure regardless of how often you use it. Remarkably easy to set up and take down, the net comes with two breakdown poles with individual pockets, along with four ground stakes for stability. And best of all, the net is completely portable, with a folding design that fits in a 29-inch circular carrying bag. Want to train at the park rather than the backyard? Not a problem. In this picture book, Karen Kingsbury tells the story of a boy in competition with other young knights to become prince of all the land. In a series of contests and competitions, the king recognizes the brave young knight as the winner, not because he was the fastest or strongest, and not because he was smarter or more cunning than the other knights. Rather, the brave young knight is the winner because he doesn't follow the crowd, instead making decisions based on what is right and true and in accordance with his faith. The moral of the story is that the bravest young boys are those who exhibit the strongest character.Book Details:Format: HardcoverPublication Date: 3/28/2011Pages: 40Reading Level: Age 4 and Up

In our efforts to reform mathematics education, we've learned a tremendous amount about young students' strategies and the ways they construct knowledge, without fully understanding how to support such development over time. The Dutch do. So, funded by the NSF and Exxon, Mathematics in the City was begun, a collaborative inservice project that pooled the best thinking from both countries. In Young Mathematicians at Work, Catherine Fosnot and Maarten Dolk reveal what they learned after several years of intensive study in numerous urban classrooms. The first in a three-volume set, Young Mathematicians at Work focuses on young children between the ages of four and eight as they construct a deep understanding of number and the operations of addition and subtraction. Rather than offer unrelated activities, Fosnot and Dolk provide a concerted, unified description of development, with a focus on big ideas, progressive strategies, and emerging models. Drawing from the work of the Dutch mathematician Hans Freudenthal, they define mathematics as "mathematizing" - the activity of structuring, modeling, and interpreting one's "lived world" mathematically. And they describe teachers who use rich problematic situations to promote inquiry, problem solving, and construction, and children who raise and pursue their own mathematical ideas. In contrast to other books on math reform, Young Mathematicians at Work provides a new look at the teaching of computation. It moves beyond the current debate about algorithms to argue for deep number sense and the development of a repertoire of strategies based on landmark numbers and operations. Sample minilessons on the use of the open number line model are provided to show you how to support the development of efficient computation.Book Details:Format: PaperbackPublication Date: 4/1/2001Pages: 224
