The white side goes against baby's bum, the brown hemp/cotton side goes down. - - Hemp doesn’t wear out, it wears in. - Hemp in particular becomes more absorbent with use so the more you wash gCloth inserts, the softer and more absorbent they become. - - How to wash and care for gCloth inserts. - For optimum softness, absorbency and sizing, wash gCloth inserts at least six (6) times in hot water without detergent before using. Expect some shrinkage in length. The extra washing is worth the effort, because gCloth inserts become softer and more absorbent the more you wash them. For regular use you can machine wash on hot and either line or machine dry. Please do not use fabric softeners. If you find that after some use your gCloth is losing some of it's absorbency you may have detergent build-up.
