I should have heeded the warnings posted here.

The glue will not adhere to the porcelain of the base of the toilet which is just below the seat. This poorly engineered item thus allows the lid to be lifted up, even if the other sections adhere to the lid and seat parts of the toilet.

My toilet was quite clean and dry, yet the adhesive and straight structure of the lower security does not allow for any stability at all of the lower portion of this clamp.

Save your money if there is anything 'curved' about the bottom of your toilet so far as the area below the seat is built.

I put this on the guest bathroom toilet in our previous home and it worked great for three years. It worked so well that I had to explain how to use it to most of the adults who came over. If you can get it to adhere to your toilet, it will keep everyone, including the adults, out.

This toilet lock would not stay attached to our toilet! OK, that's only half true . . . the bottom part that actually locks it would not stay attached. The top part that sticks to the top of the lid won't come off. So now we just have this plastic flap thing hanging off our toilet that draws our toddler to it rather than deterring her from playing in the potty. When it was still stuck on tight, I found the lock very difficult to open . . . I had to give guests instructions on how to operate the lock every time someone came to visit! I would not recommend this product at all.

Save your money. Buy a better product. This thing fell off not long after installation. This is one of several items of Safety 1st that has fallen apart too easily (the window blinds cord holder is also VERY flimsy). This is my last Safety 1st purchase. It seems as if the Safety 1st brand is guaranteed poor construction with cheap and unreliable products, NOT SAFE for your baby.

I bought 2 of these and after trying to install the first one I returned the second. There are no instructions with the lock and it does not fit all toilets.

Kudos to the previous poster for posting their own set of instructions. This was very helpful in applying the gismo to the toilet as well as releasing it. I can't understand why the company did not put any instructions on the box as they do other products under the same brand. Once properly placed onto the toilet, the latch works fine. One thing I would recommend is not taking off the clear plastic tape to the adhesive, until the very end of installation. Otherwise, your doomed.

This took some figuring out, but now that it's installed, it works.

To open the lock, pull out the round doohickey, then push down the buttons on either side (you'll think you're supposed to push them in, but it's down.) Here are instructions for how we installed it:

To install, find a place on the toilet where there are no bumps or feet underneath the top lid, but still torward the front of the seat (if the back of the toilet seat is noon, about 5 o'clock is good.) It's a good idea to position the lock as it will be installed so you can mentally measure where things will end up. Open the lock and detach the two pieces. Then detach the lower "jaw" of the top piece. Remove paper from adhesive on bottom piece and attach the lower piece to the outside of the bowl. Then, with the lid shut, remove paper from adhesive of the top "jaw" of the upper piece, lock to the bottom piece, and then attach to the top of the toilet seat lid. Finally, remove adhesive from bottom "jaw," open the lock, and attach bottom jaw.

No directions with product. Cannot understand what the button that you can pull out does, nothing that I can find. Would not recomend to anyone. @ year old pulled it off the first time he tried.

Our toilet is not perfectly square and this is designed for a flat surface in order to attach it to the base of the toilet. It uses sticky stuff and of that surface area, 1/8 is actually touching/sticking to my toilet. I now have to buy another type to replace it.

I followed the instructions carefully on how to attach this toilet lock. It's worked perfectly for about 3 months so far. Easy for adults to unlock, but my toddler has no idea how.

I followed the directions exactly and it was super easy to install. I liked it at first, but after using it for 2 days, the adhesive fell off the surface and it would no longer stick. Don't waste your money

no problems with this at all...the adhesive will stay on if you clean your toilet first and dry it.
I have had to show guests how to open it...all in all pretty handy

I installed this rather easily, however, it was on the toilet less than 2 weeks before the adhesive came loose and will no longer stick. I too am looking for a better toilet lock...

Contrary to previous post, I found this extremely easy to install. It is also easy to use. I've had to show a few adults how to use it, but my baby has not yet figured it out!
