Comments about KidCo BabySteps Food Mill:

I bought one of these apx 4 years ago and loved it. I used it many times a day for far too long (my daughter loved it!) that it wore out.

When baby #2 came along I ordered it again but now it is a piece of junk. The old one had metal parts for the actual grinding mechanism, the new one is plastic. If you are grinding bananas that may be fine but for anything else it is worthless. It is also MUCH harder to clean. I don't know if that is because it is plastic, but it's true.

      DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

Comments about KidCo BabySteps Food Mill:

I like this little mill simply because it's little, and does the job well. I don't need yet another appliance to take up space in my small kitchen. Yes, it's hard to process some types of food, like grains, for example, but it still works. I like it for fruit and veggies the best.

I used this for my 9-month old twins. I found it very diffiult to assemble. Seems like the only things that work very well with it have to be cooked so soft as to mush easily. I used a blender with my older child and it worked well. I plan to go back to the blender for these children.

I have 6 children and haven't ever really liked buying baby food already made because you never know what else got ground in with the food at the factories and it is more expensive to buy those little jars of food than to just make your own. I have used this product since 1995 with my first son and my original is still in the same shape it was in when I first got it. Very durable! I am going to buy one for my niece who is having her first baby this year. I highly reccomend this product to anyone who wants to make their babies food themselves!

Comments about KidCo BabySteps Food Mill:

This is the lower range of hand cranked food mills. So, if you are a new baby food maker, and just want to see first if you even like doing it, without a big investment - then, this is a good choice.

I wanted a hand-cranked, as opposed to an electric mill, to be able to use it on soft table foods when we are out to eat. (But since I just wanted to try this out, I didn't buy the Kidco with travel case yet...just to save a few bucks. Now, I can use this for home use.)

I don't find it difficult to push down and turn the mill handle. Keep in mind, the crank is plastic and the round disc/grater, as well. The blade is metal. I assume it's stainless steal. It is not sharp. So, I recommend that you use this to puree soft foods, like peas, avocados, bananas...or fruits and veggies you've steamed. I thought at first I can just use a fork. But, with a fork it doesn't get as smooth. (My baby's still too young to have chunkier foods). I like that it leaves the skins behind. (I put the leftover skins in my compost pile).

Now that I know that I like baby food making and it's very easy to do...I'm going to upgrade to the Kidco Delux, which has medical grade stainless steel strainer and cutting blade; a travel case & cap for the mill.

this is the best way for me to get meat and veggeis into my young toddler.. grinds chicken, beef and fish very well. It does require some pressure on tougher peices of meat, but I use it so often its well worth it. My toddler wont eat most veggies or homemade meats so I grind them up and put them into rice or other pastas so he gets the nutrients without the texture.

This works, but is not easy to use need to put some muscle beind it to grind food up. My husband agrees. This works well for feeding the baby what you are eatting.... But I found the black and decker 2-4 cup small food processer to be much faster and easier. Plus you are likely to get two meals one for the next day. THis is nice if you are a working parent trying to make baby food!!! Would recommend wouldn't buy it again though. Works well for going out to eat!

I did not ever feed my 2 kids baby food from a jar. I used this food mill for both kids everyday. I boiled or microwaved the veggies and put them strait into the food mill. It can't get any easier for fresh food for baby:)

I am a huge fan of the Baby Steps mill. I received it at one of my showers; even though I hadn't registered for it one of my friends thought it would be something I would really love... and she was right. I had bought myself a food processor when I was pregnant, assuming I would be using it all the time to make my son's baby food. After getting the mill, I must say that I haven't broken the food processor out once (he's 9 months old.). We travel extensively as a family and the mill is always with us. It comes with a cute lunch pail shaped carrying case that easily fits in a diaper bag, perfect for when we're away from home. It's SO easy to use (although you do need a bit of strength to get it through the last push) and super easy to clean. And you can feed right out of the top of it, eliminating your need for a secondary bowl. As long as the food is soft enough (e.g. cooked long enough or bananas, etc.) it is a dream product. Highly recommended.

I think this product is great! I just boil the food to be milled (veggies, fruit, meat) and grind it with this mill and it works very well. I do grind some foods twice (like chicken) to make sure the food is very smooth since my baby is only 6 months old but that's not a problem to do. It's easy to clean, it seems pretty durable, and it works quickly.

I made my own babyfood for my daughter (now 10) so when my son was old enough for food I bought this product. It is too flimsy for use on many cooked fruits and veggies. It handled peas, but not cooked carrots. It leaves the food too thick and chunky for my baby. There is only one grinding plate which is plastic, not steel, and is not fine-grained enough for beginning eaters. May be fine for much older (step three) babies.
