Product does not work on our cabinets

    • Difficult To Install

This is a good product idea, but does not work for our cabinets. The dimensions set to drill the holes are suggested too far over on our cabinets. We would ruin the cabinets if drilling this way.
Directions are so small we had to go on the safety first site to see them clearly.

      Pros

      • Easy Use
      • Strong Construction
      • Useful Application

      Cons

        Best Uses

Most folks rating this cover the performance of the product so I wont dive into that aspect of the lock. Its by far the best on the market.

What I will get into is the installation. The 1st lock will take the longest; maybe 20 mins (get all the tools out; figure where you want the release magnet to be, set the template, tinker with all of it and go! Each additional lock will take <5 mins to install. I installed 22 of these locks... in ~3 hrs.

I suggest using 2 drills to be efficient with your installation; you'll need an ~1/8" hole for the set screws; and a 9/32" hole for the magenet. If you do not have 2 drills; use one and drill all the same sized holes at once. Then come back and drill your others.

Be cautious not to overdrill... Put tape around the drill bit to act as a depth measure for you.

In the end; its a great product.

My husband took FOREVER installing the first one...and then it didn't work. Our cabinets aren't very thick, which we initially thought was the reason (i.e. thought they were too thick). It turns out after much tinkering that the first lock we installed came broken. So, check your locks before you install!!

Easy to install. Works great on cabinet doors but not so much on drawers. We've had them for a few months now and you get used to them.

Love that you cannot see it and the children dont even know its there. By far the best child proofing system for cabinets. Helps to protect the exterior of cabinet doors as well. Loved this the first time around 7 years ago...Have not seen anything i like better. Not easy installation ...Get help!

            A solid investment

We bought these locks and have put them on all drawers and cupboards in the kitchen and bathrooms. It's a bit of a pain have to constantly use the "key" everytime you need to get into a frequently used cupboard, but you get used to it. All our friends are amazed by this product.

I love this locking system, I kept looking for a system that didn't wear down (like the push down to open locks) and that my child couldn't figure out how to disable or use. This is great, I just keep the key on the range hood in the kitchen and above the mirror in the bathroom. I'll never try any other locks again!

            A very effective product

We have used these locks for 2 years now and I think they're the best we've found. They are highly effective, there's virtually no way a toddler can *figure it out*. As long as the magnet is out of reach there's nothing to worry about (and even if a young child did get hold of it, I would be very surprised if any could actually open the lock). About the only drawback I found is that sometimes it's hard to find the right spot to use the magnet on because you can't tell from the outside where the latch is. But because it's invisible it doesn't spoil the appearance of your cabinets. And I quickly learned where to place the magnet so I rarely have trouble any more. I also like that you can set the latch so that it doesn't lock automatically for those times when you need to get in the cabinet repeatedly. Just remember to set it back to locking when you're done! Overall, an excellent product, we're very pleased.

            Best locks for safety!!!

I just love these locks....We have used them all over our house...kitchens,bathrooms,even on cabinets in the living and family room. The magnet keys are a cinch to use once you get the hang of them and also these locks can later be disengaged when kids are older and they are no longer needed.......leaving your home childproofed forever!!!

            great concept, mediocre execution

I love the fact that these locks, when properly installed, CANNOT be opened by curious toddlers. That being said, they are a challenge to install properly. The guide does not fit snugly enough on your drill bit, so you have to be very vigilant to ensure that you do not drill through your cabinet. (I suggest that the company start selling either better drill guides or drill bits specific to common cabinet thicknesses that will not drill beyond a certain point.) And you have to make sure that the lock is positioned exactly right with respect to the catch when you install it, or it won't engage and you'll be adjusting your cabinet hinges to try to get the thing to work. Despite these issues, I use these locks because my toddler can get almost any other lock open, and these do keep her safe.

            Can't Live Without Them!

I tried the cabinet flex locks and found that our cabinet handles were too far apart for those locks. Then we tried using the kind of locks that only allow a child to open the door an inch. However, my toddler kept leaning on the door with his fingers in the crack. This product does not leave that gap. I love them. We have them all over the house!

            Best Idea On Market

I have the Tot Lock on all lower cabinets and the latches on pull out drawers. The Tot Lock is the best sure way to keep little ones out of dangerous doors/cabinets. Wish I would have installed them on every drawer. Takes a little install time just like any of them but this is well worth every penney. Definately suggest an extra key !! I have tried a lot of cabinet locks not wanting to spend the money on these locks.I can truthfully say that as a parent I spent as much trying to save as I would have just buying tot locks in the first place! If you love your child buy this product. It could be the difference between a healthy child and your child getting into something horrible.

These locks are the best! My favorite thing about them is that you can flip the red latch and disable them. I like that because I put them in my bathroom. My daughter is only occasionly in that bath with me, so when she is I flip em on and when she's not I don't have to fight with a baby lock all the time. The disableing feature also makes them great for Grandma's house or say when you don't need them for your kids anymore but you have a friend or family with a little one over you can enable them again. The other good thing about them is that since the cabinet won't open at all with them on, nobody gets their little fingers pinched. My only advise is that you get more than one key. My kitchen is pretty large and it would drive me nuts if I had to keep running back to the same spot to get the key all the time. Or sometimes one key is misplaced and it's good to have another.

These locks are the best. Yes it's a pain to get the lock but you get used to it. I keep a key in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. I love it because they can't bang the cabinets and they can't pinch their precious little fingers on accident.
