Hard to Install

By Savannah's Mom

Fist of all the locks (once installed) work excellent! No pinched fingers and no batteling with cabinets & drawers. My husband is a general contractor and had a HORRIBLE time installing these. There is a template, but it only works for some cabinets and hardly any drawers. My husband installed these in our kitchen and two bathrooms. It took several hours and a lot of frustration. These are not just basic locks they are very involved! Be careful -it's easy to drill through your cabinet.

Wonderful product

My husband installed these with relative ease... he used the enclosed template and read the directions! I was most impressed when I saw that my daughter's preschool uses these locks too. Would highly recommend to any parent!

Great safety product

My mom has used these for about 10 years for her in home daycare and she loves them. I just recently bought them for the kitchen cabinets when my son, who is 10 months old, started walking. They work great!!! He's been able to figure out all the other childproof locks we've tried.

KEEP YOUR RECEIPT

Keep your receipt... I have a more modern door on each of my cabinets and though they are less than 1 1/2" thick, the locks did not work.

Strong enough to withstand a 3year old

By Lisa, Mom of two, 3yrs and 9 mos.

I love these locks. My son is quick to figure out how to get past child safety devices. This is one he can't get past. These are on the cabinets with all the cleaning supplies and class vases. There are times he plays with the cabinets. He has literally pulled with all his weight and the doors did not budge. I only rated this four stars as I helped someone else install them on her doors. Her cabinets are much thicker and it is a little difficult to find the magnet to unlatch the door.

Great product!!!!

I installed these locks all on my own and the first one was a bit difficult but the others were a breeze. Read the instructions. These are great locks and I love them but I was concerned that I would lose the key so I mounted an adhesive magnetic strip which you can purchased at any craft store for a dollar or two, and stuck it inconspicuously under an above cabnet and the key connects to the magnet strip and stays in place. No need to buy the key holder.

A little more time in exchange for peace of mind

These come with an extension for thicker cabinets and drawers and we've never had a problem with them. They were a little more complicated to install than other locks, but they are SO much better.

More work to install, but great

These locks may be more difficult to install than other types but work very well once you get them in place. Having installed them in my kitchen, here are a couple of pointers- 1) use a slightly larger drill bit than the recommended size, this will give you a bit of wiggle room to get the alignment correct 2) make sure to drill a deep enough hole, though it is not clear from the directions the metal must be close to the surface of the cabinet to work - use the extensions if you have thick cabinets 3) use a small sticker to mark where to place the "key" on the face of the cabinet- beats searching constantly to find the right spot!

Average Cabinet too thick

By Mom to two

Excellent concept but my cabinets were too thick. My cabinets are not even a full inch thick - must be about average - and are still too thick for the magnet to operate. Oh well..

Doesn't Work

By Anonymous

We bought these when we were visiting my parents but they did not work with their cabinets so we kept them to use at our house. They didn't work at our house either. The problem seems to be that the cabinets (fairly average ones) are too thick for the magnet to open the locking mechanism.

The best lock, hands down!

By Steve, first time dad.

These locks are the best. Other locks allow babies to open drawers enough to get little fingers stuck in them. These won't allow drawers & cabinets to open even a little unless you have the key. I found installation to be straight-forward. I would recommend using an actual bit block. The plastic one provided isn't very reliable.

Best lock on the market

When we don't need a cabinet locked, we simply flip the switch- and reactivate it when it's needed. Easy to use- the only locks we use in our home.

Effective yet time consuming installation

By Amy, mother of a 13 month old

Tot Lok is a wonderful product , however, don't think these install easily. It took three hours to install 7 locks due to the thickness of our cabinets, Also, buy an extra key and remember it will take some time to get used to being locked out of your own cabinets!

Simply the best.

By Jen, a Mom of 3 and one on the way.

These are harder to install than traditional baby locks, but well worth it. My daughter figured out all the other types of locks by 12 months of age. So, we gave in and bought these. She has no clue why the doors do not open, and only tryed to open them the first day or two but then lost intrest in the cabinets. They work so well we put them in all the bathrooms and entertainment cabinets, hutches, everything she could open is now off limits to her tiny hands. With another on the way we feel much safer now. Thank you for such a safe product. One sugestion though is to make the "key" magnet larger, just incase a child get it. My older son left ours within reach and she did try to put it in her mouth.

Priceless

I have a 14 month old and after sever smashed fingers we switched to Tot-Loks and will NEVER switch to anything else. Installation is fairly simple, if you follow the instructions and use the templates. Other products claim they are the best, but you don't hear that from Safety 1st. They let the customers say that for them. This customer is saying that Safety 1st is the BEST product on the market. Yes, it is a little expensive, but they work AND last MUCH longer than the leading brands. Thank you, Safety 1st!!
