Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

A while ago, I switched to Seventh Generation diapers because Huggies consistently gave my daughter a rash. When my son was recently born, I intended to stick with SevGen, despite the poor reviews; I was confidant enough with the brand to stock up. I hate to say it, but the samples I received of Pampers' Swaddlers and Huggies' Pure & Natural were a significantly better fit. They are cut for a newborn's body and offer soft flexibility, whereas SevGen gapes at the waist and have a bulk of padding between the legs- I have to change his clothes with nearly every diaper change. However, for political reasons, I am loathe to return to the big brands. I expect to have a better experience with the larger sized SevGen diapers, as I did with my daughter. Until then, I may just pick up another brand until he's a little bigger; they are only newborns a few fleeting weeks.
Even though I respect the brand, I wish they'd redesign their newborn size for a better fit.

Not as wonderful as I hoped
By KARA!Verified Reviewer from Indiana on 10/8/2009

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I have cloth diapers to try when my newborn gets a bit bigger, and thought I would try the Seventh Generation disposables in the meantime since they are better for the planet. Unfortunately, I do not like them as much as the Pampers that our son wore in the hospital. The Seventh Generation diapers are stiff. Also, because they are unbleached and naturally an off-white color, it is hard for me to tell when my son has wet his diaper. I'm hoping as I get more experience this will be easier, but in the meantime, I am going to use Pampers Swaddlers.

No diaper Rash, not harsh like others

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

Never had leaking problems. A little stiff. But very gentle on baby's skin. Skin is always a little red from other diapers like huggies and pampers even with frequently changing. These are great, no redness or diaper rash.

Perfect for Eco-Friendly Preemies!
By Organic Mom Of PreemieVerified Reviewer from Orange, CA on 7/23/2009

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

My preemie was born 2lbs 10 oz and we had wanted to use Nature Babycare Diapers on her because they are biodegradable (which these aren't) but they run large and even now, 2 months later she's 6lbs 10 oz they still are large on her. Seventh Generation Newborn Diapers were the perfect fit, rarely ever leaking (I think once or twice because I didnt have them on properly), and they were as eco-friendly as you can get. I love them and totally recommend them for preemies!!

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I bought cloth diapers but my baby was too small to use them the first couple of months (he was 6 lbs 2 oz at birth and I used disposable until he was about 10 lbs), so I bought these more environmentally friendly diapers. My friend had highly recommended them, but they leaked everywhere and I was very disappointed. I don't think they soaked up any liquid. Grrr. Let me just say I still buy disposables to put on my son once a day - since the cloth diapers are so bulky, I like to give him disposable to increase his range of motion and allow him to move around with less resistance ... sounds crazy, but it actually makes a difference! I was a bit apprehensive to go with SG again, but I really wanted the more environmentally friendly diapers ... so, I ended up trying the size 1 diapers, and I am glad I gave it a second chance because they work great! He is now up to size 2 at 16 lbs and they still work very well - I really don't know what the issue was with the newborn size, but I haven't had any problems with size 1 or 2. Yea!

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

These diapers were too small. BTW, my daughter was born 7 lbs. 1 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. After using it for 3 days, I went to size 1 in Seventh Generation Diapers. After using Seventh Generation diapers for a month, I noticed that they started making the diapers smaller. More leaks and problems. I then again had to switch and moved over Nature Babycare. I wish I started off with those sooner. Much better looking and absorbs very well. No chlorine and no gel chemicals for absorption! I still use 7th Generation wipes though, I find that they are the right moisture level whereas Nature Babycare's is very soapy.

Stiff and don't fit newborn well

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I love the Seventh Generation line of diapers and have used them for both my 2 year old and 5 year old sons. However the newborn diaper seemed way too stiff and just didn't fit well on my baby girl. Now that she's a little bigger I am using the size 1 diaper and it works just fine. I have had a few leaks but no more than with other brands. The main pro for this diaper is that it is bleach-free and has no perfumes or dyes.

Good alternative, runs small

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I have used Seventh Generation diapers for the past 3 weeks. My son was 6lb when he was born, and now about 7lb. I feel we are growing out of the newborn diapers around 7lb vs the suggested 10lbs. They are getting a little snug around his legs and leaving little red marks. These diapers are soft and have never leaked. We have had 0 diaper rashes. They are softer in feel compared to Nature Baby Care, but both are very absorbant and have not leaked. NatureBaby Care does not have "newborn" or I would have purchased them too.

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I ordered these diapers for my newborn baby thinking it's chlorine free and would be soft on baby's skin. They are a very poor fit, not long enough and very wide. It looks very uncomfortable when i put it on the baby. They are so loose that every time the baby poops there's a leak. Also the snaps are so poor that if the baby cries the diaper just comes off. I prefer my other brand of diapers which are cheaper than this but still much better.

Nice Diaper but poor fit

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

This diaper did not leak and absorbed well. But the fit is not good and really hard to get on well. It is too wide between the legs and not long/tall enough. My baby is on the bigger side (8 lbs 11ozs.) But even on a smaller baby the ratio of width to height doesn't seem good. They are a bit stiff too. But I do like that they are envir. friendly. Also as a NB diaper it should have a cut out for the cord.

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

We always try and be environmentally conscious so I'd love to say these are great but they are not. Every single 7th generation diaper that we put on my newborn son has leaked. We normally use Nature Babycare with our 18 month old son - which I HIGHLY recommend as an eco alternative to other disposable diapers. But they don't make a newborn size so we had to pick another brand. For both our newborns, we used Pampers Swaddlers - really absorbant, great fit, super soft, but not eco conscious. Good thing those babes grow out of them fast.

Good alternative to Pampers

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I just began using this product instead of Pampers for my 12 month old toddler. They seem a bit stiff, and they do run small - a bit smaller than Pampers, so buy a size bigger than you may think! The tabs do stretch, but not a ton. So far no urine leaks, although he did have a blowout down his leg due to a virus, and I was disappointed the diaper did not hold it, as Pampers had always done in the past. So far, a "good" alternative, but I will be trying other brands to hopefully find a better green solution!

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

We try to use products that are friendly to the environment, but we also have to balance the performance of the items to competitive standards. We have tried Seventh Generation, Huggies and Pampers and we even purchased 4 - 40 ct packs of the Seventh Generation New Born for our new born son, who is of average size at 6 lbs 7 oz and 18 1/2 inches. We want to use the Seventh Generation NB product however we have not been able to fit them effectively on our son. They LEAK and blow out like crazy. Even when snugly fastened they leave gaps at the waist line both in front and back. The environmental consciences is there, but we're having to do 2 - 3 times the laundry to launder the wet and dirtied clothing, blankets and crib / play-pin linen. Not to mention the fit. It seem compared to the other leading brands the Seventh Generation is stiffer and thicker providing a big wad of scratchy diaper excess bundle between our little guy's legs. Even the interior lining is much more stiff and scratchy in comparison. I have the Seventh Generation and the Pampers sitting here on my desk. When you open both a clear visible difference is the Pamper inner side leak catching panels are wide / tall at an inch or more and are clearly designed to be perpendicular to the diaper surface. On the Seventh Generation brand I had to forcably pull their similar panels away from the bottom section to "engage" them and they are noticably smaller at approximate a half inch. Just having both sit here on my desk with no baby in them, the Seventh Generation brand is bulky in the bottom. Perhaps this extra bulk is to compensate for the lower absorbency of the chosen material. We could deal with that extra-ness if it actually worked. To be honest, I'll be selling my 5 unopened 40 count packages on Craig's List for someone else to try and perhaps revisit the Seventh Generation brand post the NB stage. Reviews of the non-NB sizes seem to be much better.. will try them when the time comes.

Comments about Seventh Generation Newborn - 40 ct:

I really wanted these diapers to work well since they're better for the environment than the others that are available for newborns. Unfortunately they leak like crazy! We've had terrible leaks every time we've put one of these on our newborn son. Now I have an extra case on hand. These might work for you, but definitely buy one pack to try them out before investing in a bunch of them.
